Adam Gaudette; Oct 19th, 2020- on signing his new contract;

https://www.nhl.com/canucks/video/news- ... /c-6844817

16:33 min: long / Talks about the number change to 96-(and the others that were involved). Working on getting stronger. His social media platform on (Twitch) that he and his wife set up and how much fun that is. Goes over just about everything.
Gives Manny Malholtra plenty of credit, says no bullshit with him!..... Wants to be like Patrice Bergeron ✔.
It's long but not boring. Never is at a loss for words...

Disappointed seeing Malhotra leave, especially for the Leaves, and not sure why they couldn't have accommodated him here. Yet they retain Newell Brown.

I thought he set down roots here after marrying Steve Nash's sister and all. Too bad.

CapFriendly@CapFriendly
Update:

Due to the shortened COVID schedule, and as explained in the NHL MOU, the window for this off-season is only 24 hours in length, and opens two days after the final arbitration case, not 3.
Quote Tweet
CapFriendly@CapFriendly

With VAN's only arbitration case now settled, a 2nd buyout window will open:

The window begins in 3 days, & is open 48 hours

Players who meet these 2 requirements are eligible:
1. Was on the teams reserve list at the trade deadline
2. Cap hit >= $4M

Some of the first comments from JV after his signing was aired. Oct. 22, 2020.
Sportsnet 650@Sportsnet650
Virtanen on Benning comments: Obviously saw those, when your GM says that about you, you go back home and think about it a lot. That was my first playoff experience. Not normal circumstances with the bubble. At least I have that experience now and know what to expect in playoffs.
----------
Virtanen on arbitration: I had thoughts about it. Took in everything possible, looked at every option. I don't think many guys like going to arbitration. The stories I've heard are pretty outrageous. My agent did a great job getting this done beforehand
---------
Virtanen: Travis knows me pretty well, been playing for him for a long time. He understands me and what kind of player I am. Being back for my 6th year, they expect more responsibility. I want a bigger opportunity and more responsibility.

Very in depth interview with Ashton Sautner who signed a new 700k one year deal with the Canucks.

7:51 min.
Takes his job seriously in Utica. Played lots with Juolevi and Rafferty he explains at about 4: 05.
Good depth player for the organization that can be called up

Not a huge surprise, but with no one on $125 waivers today, the Canucks will not avail themselves of the second buyout window, a team source confirms.

The 24-hour 2nd buyout window only applied to players on contracts with an AAV north of $4 million.

Province-Oct; 26/2020 Author of the article:Ben Kuzma

https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/n ... out-option
Ben Kuzma: Canucks GM Benning bullish on retaining Sutter instead of buyout option
'We have to be careful that we take everything into consideration before we start buying people out. With Sutter, we talked about different scenarios for leaders in our group. To lose him would be a big void in our room.' — Jim Bennin
The general manager believes the financial relief of Brandon Sutter clearing unconditional waivers and being bought out of the year remaining on a contract that carries a US$4.375 million salary cap commitment —a two-thirds contract formula spreading the buyout over two years and resulting in a $2.333 million saving next season — are trumped by his versatile value as a centre and winger and locker-room presence.
The concussion-plagued Micheal Ferland is at a career crossroads, and while the winger is skating and training, his playing future is in considerable doubt. Placing the winger on the long-term injury list would free up his annual $3.5 million hit in cap relief. There’s also the option of burying contracts and demoting Eriksson and Sven Baertschi to the AHL affiliate Utica Comets in a formula that provides some relief.

Applying the league minimum salary ($700,000) plus $375,000 means Eriksson’s cap hit will only be reduced from $6 million to $4.9 million and Baertschi’s $3.36 hit in the final year of his deal, trimmed to $2.29 million. It makes sense because the contract aren’t movable and there haven’t been trade suitors for the pair.

“I’m OK with having extra guys that we might send down,” said Benning. “In a flat-cap world, I don’t think there’s any risk of anybody getting picked up (waivers) and if they do, good for them. Those are things that are on the table.”
