Need to pick up the pace here.

13-11-4 over the first 28 games. Will probably need something like: 29-18-7 over the next 54 games to qualify for playoffs. That would leave them at 42-29-11 for 95 points. The losses to the Coilers and Penguins sting.

11 of 14 on home ice with two games in Cali and one in Alberta. If there ever was a time to make some hay it’s now. Should get some good practice time this week and a couple of bodies back. 9-4-1 is doable. Anything less is weaksauce. So go 12-2. :mex:

What's so hard to understand? Doyle is pointing out figures and looking at our chances from a realistic point of view.
I said I'd rather be enthusiastic regardless of the numbers, accurate though they may be.

Thank you for proving you don't understand the meaning of "verisimilitude"!

But is he? :eh:

The most common usage of verisimiltude would be in judging literature and drama; appearance of reality, believability.

In this sense, Micky may be stating that although Doyle's prediction appears closer to reality, is more believable, than a more optimistic take, he prefers optimism. Makes sense.

Another more narrow usage of verisimiltude is how Karl Popper uses it to differentiate between how close to reality two flawed theories are
(eg you could say that Darwin's theory of evolution has more verisimiltude than intelligent creation). A method of ranking imperfection by how close to the actual truth it is.

In this sense, Micky may be stating that although Doyle's prediction is demonstrably closer to the truth than a more optimistic take, he prefers optimism. Makes sense.

A third usage is as a synonym to Stephen Colbert's truthiness, eg something that you prefer to consider true, based on your gut instinct, despite the facts saying otherwise.

In this sense, Micky would be stating that although Doyle's prediction is based on a gut feeling and probably not true, he prefers optimism.
Yeah, that would not make total sense. :|

The Popper version is probably the least common one, mainly used in philosophy, and considered a rather flawed concept as it is generally not that easy to rank how far from the truth different theories are, especially since the scientific consensus occassionally changes. So it is far more likely that Micky is using either the first or the third definition of verisimiltude, and I think his statement is fairly reasonable if judged by the first definition. It makes even more sense if he is referencing Popper, but as I said, I doubt that is the case. It is just in the truthiness sense that the argument falls apart altogether, so let's just agree to assume that that's not how he intended to use it. :drink:

I saw this and thought of you guys. I hope it makes someone happy.

In case the link doesn't work, the point is that this particular stats guy puts the odds of a Canucks playoff appearance this season at 72.4%.

So they are 8-4 since this post with 2 games remaining in that 14 game span I talked about. 40 games played and 1 game and 1 win away from the halfway point and half the 96 points I predicted they would get. :mex:

Pretty sure I called the score the other night too at 4-2. Oh it’s true..... :mex:
