Leivo's gotta go, Gaudette and Virtanen over Leivo and Motte imo.

You're forgetting, Messier was still taking the money of canucks fans until 2012.

Messier was paid $6 mil x 3 years, then $2 mil to buy out the final 2 years of the deal, then was awarded $6 mil in arbitration for the increase in the franchise value during his contract term, so $26 mil total I think.

Are you trolling or serious?
26 mil for 3 seasons (and this back in the 90's) for 162 total points, no playoffs, and a lightning rod of negativity in the dressing room, amongst fans, and the organization that contributed to an alleged captaincy power play, trades, coach and management upheaval. I'm sure more could be added to that list but That's about all the time I want to spend on this rehash. Comparing a Straight stat line you have a point. On Overall negative impact, messier and his contract is hands down the biggest cancer this team has ever seen. Maybe I should have phrased it, "worst signing ever"
Meh...I don’t know. Where do you get 26 million from? I thought it was 6 million a year. Unless there was a signing bonus I’m not factoring in. Trevor should have handed him the C right when he arrived. Either way Messier was instrumental in tearing apart that butter soft team that was a shell of the 94 squad. Pat Quinn for all the good things he had done previously, should have taken a blowtorch to that roster a couple years before then. Messier and Keenan did what Pat didn’t have the stomach for. Guys like Naslund and Bertuzzi said they learned a lot from Messier. Messier may have been a douche but he helped Iron Mike cut the cancer out of the room.

"But Messier's contract was bought out by the Canucks for $2 million after just three years following the 1999-2000 season. The $6-million arbitration award means Messier earned a total of $26 million for his three seasons with the Canucks. The team missed the playoffs in each of those three seasons."

Sorry for the double post. Beat me to it. Mess was the gift that kept on giving. The original Thief.

The team isn’t very fast so taking Virtanen out isn’t wise. That’s why Motte gets a spot. Roussel is definitely a starter. A healthy lineup will be a challenge for Green but Eriksson is done if we are completely healthy. Baertschi is still playing with apprehension, I think he’s done. Goldobin is making a very strong case for a promotion

Benning has to move out bodies, think it has to be Sutter, but him and Green love Sutter

I get the sense we ain’t seeing Ferland for awhile

BTW have they said what Juolevi’s injury is?
Yes, what is it with our coaches and their love of plugs? Leivo even gets shootout opportunites before higher caliber players like Bo and Quinn. It's ridiculous.

And that was 20 years ago! factor in the inflation on a 6M contract from 2000. That's probably an 8 or 9 mil contract in today's nhl. The that pole came clearly came back out out the franchise's mouth.

I think the pole spent some time in Trevor’s bum as well. But Trev never had a problem grabbing his ankles.

Sorry to digress a bit but I don't think it can be overstated that Lou-ser is currently statistically superior to only 8 - that's eight - players in the entire nhl this season. That list of 754 includes many players who are now inactive for any number of reasons. It also does not include goalies, ten of which have more points than this drip.

I'm also ready to move on from Sutter. This last injury has passed my patience threshold for birdbones. A little over three seasons here and combined, he has missed more than an entire season...and still counting! He's just not valuable enough to pull the Tanev/Edler injury act and get away with it.

I think he is close to being "as valuable" as Tanev at least, the team is significantly better when those players are healthy, and their absence is reflected in the results.

But with the Canucks holding down a playoff spot, with the entire "elite bottom-six" hurt, I hope they take an extremely conservative approach to working Roussel, Sutter, Beagle and Ferland back into the lineup. Especially since we'll need as much LTIR space as possible.

But something needs to be done about keeping Bo's TOI down if they're going to load-manage the injured players.

I don't mind Leivo and I kind of like him. He has a decent skill set, great shot and good size. I'd take him over Bearcheese and Golds any day; I think it was the right call to keep him over those 2. He only has 2Gs on the season, but I think he's a bit snake bit. That being said, I don't know why Leivo is consistently getting minutes with our best players and PP time, while Jake is stuck on the 3rd/4th line all the time.

I only wish Leivo had more of a mean streak in him (ie: like our old buddy Kassassian). If we can resign him on the cheap, I would mind something like $2M for 2 yrs.

“Elite bottom six”

I’m not ready to gas Sutter yet. They need him for the playoff push. IMHO he isn’t close to nearly as valuable as Tanev or Edler but they still need his defensive acumen and PK ability. Trade him in the summer.

yeah,he was playing great until the injury.
problem with him is that he plays like he's a 100 lb.'s heavier than he is, which leads to inevitable injury

He's starting to grow on me. He's been really good the last couple. He is an elite bottom six just like Sutter. (thanks Doyle)
Leivo is finally making better decisions with and without the puck and is remarkable considering he's been around a spell.
I attribute some of the better positional play by a few Canucks to watching how TJ Miller plays. He's isn't perfect or a superstar but the guy
makes smart choices most of the time.

Sutter has had a real good start and he was partly responsible for our great October. We need that for at least (I'll cut him a break), 65-70, games.
And of course>>>full tilt in the playoffs.
