Re: Offseason grades so far
Thanks for the love,
I've actually been around since 2006 ish... when it was called canuckscentral.com. I used to come and just search for Hockey Widow's comments to see if there are any more nuggets. Seems like she's lost her connections
But ya i never post and i just follow along.
Anyway,
Further with the Miller trade. I think him doing well as a 2C in New York and actually doing well at a young age. It gives green options. He can load up the first line and then throw a heavy second line.
ep40 - horvat - boeser
roussel - miller - pearson
ferlund - sutter - virtanen
Guadette was babied with 60% ozone starts last year. His faceoff draws were shit. Which really makes me appreciate petey even more. For never really playing much center against adults. He's done quite well. Gaudette has always been a center. If he needs to be sheltered then Utica or trade is best for him. I am all for keeping sutter on as a 3c pk guy. Gaudette doesnt do pk either for us.
another side note.
I played at the hockey helps the homeless event last november. We were given 2 alumni per team. I sat in between john craighead ( who?? ) and Babych. John I didnt recognize at all, so i talked to him as if he was one of us until i asked who's the second alumni here. after a few games on the same line. I was asking about playing days and how guys today are not even close as the guys back in the day. Players are too fine tuned, video games, dont socialize, dont go out as a team, introverted individuals. I asked him about a few players.
ericksson: the management staff have been on him alot. they've applied pressure and loui is aware he needs to contribute. They have given him what he was work at the time. Loui has failed to deliver and have threatened demotion.
virtanen: hasnt "got it" yet. What he meant by that was, he's still partying, at the casinos and hasnt started to give a shit yet. Bright lights and fame has gotten to him by being a local boy and such. However, he says virtanen is a scrapper and can chuck them. Babych chimed in and said yes. He just needs to destroy someone first and then confidence will come. John says he's seen virtanen fight a few times and believes when we have a bigger supporting cast of guys who can hold their own. Virtanen will start coming out of that shell and show us what he really is. ( If ferlund is put on his line, I think we will see more of virtanen becoming what we have always wanted. If i was to be in his shoes. I would be shit scared of being ko'd in my home arena infront of my friends and family...Especially if the other team has a pack mentality. Canucks have only had guddy and dorsett to fight these battles, with a team full of granlunds)
Benning : drafts well but owners want to see something .
Linden : this was the most interesting. Apparently linden and benning clashed many times. Benning always believed it could be turned around easily but linden wanted the long term approach. He wanted the sedins to finish their careers here and give them as much help they needed. Benning wanted to trade them. Linden wanted to keep kesler but benning wanted him gone asap once story broke out he wanted to be traded. linden wanted to send petey to the minors and tank this year. Benning wanted to see what they had in ep and surround him with vets. Linden nixed that.
Benning had his hands tied with linden playing gm mode and wanted things his way as well. Benning had to deal with the owners anddd linden anddd try to make it his team. Meanwhile the fans have been trashing benning, meanwhile linden the golden boy is clear of it all. Shame really. Mind you, contracts have been decent since linden has left. The message has been clear since. A team has an identity now. So, Bravo Benning. Bravo.

Love that heavy 2nd line idea you got there. Something that has been desperately needed around these parts for a while. We've had alot of soft players of late.asidas wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:03 pm.

I cant help thinking "what if" with gaudette. Some excellent tools but its odd how he seems to never be in the right place at the right time. Almost a hockey iq issue. If thats the case i could see him going on a ride with Loui or moved for picks to help offset millers 1st

McCann stays.
Forsling stays.
Sutter isn’t here.
Baertschi isn’t here.
Pearson isn’t here.
Lockwood isn’t in the system.
The Canucks lose a 5th.
The Canucks get and use another 2d in 2014, 2015, and 2016
The Canucks get and use a 4th in 2016
The Canucks get and use a 6th in 2015.
McCann, Forsling, 3x2nds, 4th, 6th
For
Sutter, Baertschi, Pearson, Lockwood, and a 5th.

UW, I've long been amazed at the over valuation of upper mid to mid round picks based upon the what ifs of chasing the statistical outlier.
A couple of things missing from your argument. JB targeted players with attitudes and work ethics to bring along the younger 1st round picks coming into the new core. he also wasn't afraid to cut bait (Shrinkwrap) on youth he didn't see what he hoped to see. The other is the unspeakable mention of two aging core players, still with upper level work ethics and flashes of skill and could have returned top prospects/1st round picks........but were essentially untradable because they had to go as a package.

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

..Too lazy to look back 2+ years. I distinctly remember "a few" of my posts starting with (no disrespect intended, but).
I sometimes wonder what could have been gained or attained but I shake it off quickly when I see what's here now.
All that matters is the now.
..Incidentally, for those who enjoy writing and wanting, yearning, to give it the professional look, there "is" and always has been an option for indenting your paragraph. I feel like such an idiot for not seeing it before.

Re: Offseason grades so far
We need a blob dude flame war or something this morning. This emptiness made my morning coffee suck so bad i had to go to calpuke just to get a laugh ffs.
On a totally unrelated note...
We should really add Mike Gillis into the ring of honour as a builder. He was at the tiller for a pretty successful run of at least 2 to 3 years there and was damn close to bringing us our 1st cup. Its pretty disrespectful to constantly hammer on the guy when he almost accomplished so much for us.
Steady as she goes Mike....steady as she goes...

Blob is still drafting $9 million William ahead of $1.25 Million jake.
$10 million William 7 goals 20 assists
There’s a rumour that the Jets are shopping the playoff no show - Ehlers. 0 goals 21 playoff games, injury prone, soft perimeter player. Blob loves him as well as Island Nucklehead

TJ Miller - 6’-1” 205 lbs, gritty and very fast.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:34 amJust curious what TJ Millers playoff numbers looking like...you know for relevanceRoyalDude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:25 am Blob is still drafting $9 million William ahead of $1.25 Million jake.

Ehlers - 5’-11” 170 lbs butter soft, bird bones, perimeter player, always injured. And makes way too much money

Ya he is but how has he fared when the games matter more? Maybe its a little misleading to say Ehlers sucks because he hasnt racked up points in the playoffs yet...RoyalDude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:37 amTJ Miller - 6’-1” 205 lbs, gritty and very fast.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:34 amJust curious what TJ Millers playoff numbers looking like...you know for relevanceRoyalDude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:25 am Blob is still drafting $9 million William ahead of $1.25 Million jake.

Please do not compare Nikolaj Mason Raymond Ehlers to Miller. Miller brings way more to the table and doesn’t fall over when the wind kicks up.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 9:42 am Ya he is but how has he fared when the games matter more? Miller also played down the line up in what was a very deep Tampa forward group, asked to play a more defensive type role which is something Blobbees Ehlers isn’t capable of

If he is so much better...why are his playoff numbers comparable? 3 goals in 60+ playoff games? That suuuucksRoyalDude wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 10:07 am Please do not compare Nikolaj Mason Raymond Ehlers to Miller. Miller brings way more to the table and doesn’t fall over when the wind kicks up.

So you prefer the soft as butter perimeter player with the bird bones, always injured over the 6’-1” 205 lbs excellent skater, gritty, multi-faceted, making a million less per year?Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Sat Jul 20, 2019 10:23 amIf he is so much better...why are his playoff numbers comparable? 3 goals in 60+ playoff games?
