Baby or not if the Canucks don’t be careful they could be liable in the future. As a fan this seems like Ferland is not a guarantee for making it to the end of season. Would prefer the cap space available should the Genius want to make a trade.
Canucks butts are covered, they've followed the concussion protocol to a tee.

Went back and looked: I don't think Ferland took a shift in the last eight minutes of the first period Friday, though he remained on the bench until end.

Didn't see anything "noticeable."

Ferland's health is the most important thing and I hope he's OK.

I feel for the guy.

*I just went back and skimmed through it myself and Birnell seems accurate here.

Jan 2019:

Former No 1 overall NHL draft pick and six-time All-Star Rick Nash has retired because of concussion-related symptoms, his agent said Friday.

“Due to unresolved issues/symptoms from the concussion sustained last March, Rick Nash will be forced to retire from the game of hockey.

Under the advice of his medical team, the risk of further brain injury is far too great if Rick returns to play,”
agent Joe Resnick said in a statement.

“Rick would like to thank everyone who has supported him during this difficult time period.”

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/ ... d-injuries
When you have had a concussion, you are easily concussed in the future with less impact.
You will always be more susceptible to another concussion than someone who hasn’t had one, particularly during the first year after your concussion. An article published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine, it states that, a repeat injury while recovering from a prior concussion may occur with less force, and take longer to resolve (Simma et al.,2013).

Many people (especially athletes) who have had one concussion go on to have more. According to a study in the Journal of American Medical Association, athletes who have sustained one mTBI are more susceptible to further brain injuries (Guskiewicz et al. 2003). And your experience recovering after multiple concussions may not be as smooth: With every concussion, your chances of long-term symptoms (post-concussion syndrome) increases.

Ferland, might be best to take off a full calendar year as this season was a hot mess, and he risks life-long repercussions if he forces a return.

Could get brain damage, or might consider retirement ala Rick Nash.

The NFL is finally going all-in on understanding these affects as players have committed suicide due to concussion symptoms.
Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a degenerative brain disease caused by repetitive hits

CTE is not about single concussions. It’s the result of repeated concussions — and even head impacts that are not quite as severe — which can result in lasting structural changes in the brain. “The pain you feel [after a hit] is not necessarily an indicator of the damage that does to your head,” Philip Bayly, an engineering professor at Washington University in Saint Louis, who has been studying the mechanics of brain movement inside the head, said in a 2019 interview.

Specifically, brains with CTE accumulate a protein called tau (which is believed to be dislodged from brain fibers during an injury). Tau clumps together in the tissues of the brain, interrupting critical information flow.

It's too bad, I had my finger crossed for him and was hoping for the best, time to shut him down. "Gave up" is a bit of stretch. :P

My comment was tongue in cheek. At the end of the day, Micheal Ferland has a young family to think about. He obviously worked his ass off to get to the point where he could attempt to play again. I feel bad for the kid. He absolutely should be shut down for the season. Hopefully he can give it a go at camp in September.

He's had like 16 minutes of ice time since October, apparently this time he wasn't even hit or in physical contact before leaving the game.

I think it's more likely that his career is over, he just can't play hockey anymore. Good on the Aquilinis for ponying up to sign him, because I'm sure he was un-insurable, but maybe they've gotten themselves a $3.5 million indigenous community outreach worker, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

If Crosby was a comparable for concussion recurrence, it took him three years to come out the other side, and I don't know if Ferland has that kind of drive to come back.

Given how innocuous the plays were that knocked him out as a Canuck, I have to wonder if he rushed back last season and hid symptoms in order to land his big contract.

Thinking back now and one thing comes to mind. Every time I've heard Ferland interviewed, he seems nervous, hyper. That is polar opposite to Crosby. It would not surprise me at all if a sort of panic attack syndrome is accompanying his concussion symptoms. If he felt symptoms as fast as
what is it seems yesterday then one would think the sensation of flying in an airliner or moving on an escalator bother him. Indeed, this could take
time. There is much involved with what would be considered a full recovery. Very complicated.

He gets shut down for as long as necessary for his recovery and retirement is an option depending on the medical advise he receives.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Kinda eerie these November concussions for Ferland.

November 2, 2014 - Calgary Flames winger Michael Ferland sustained a concussion after getting pounded into the boards by Anton Volchenkov who got a four-game suspension.

--

November 27, 2018 - Ferland "after the game something didn’t feel right,” the Canes forward said. “I had concussion symptoms, feeling in a fog, things like that.”

The Hurricanes winger acknowledged he could have hid his symptoms from the team and league, since there was nothing in the game film to suggest he was injured.

--

November 02, 2019 - Micheal Ferland suffered a concussion in an Oct. 30 bout with Kyle Clifford

--

Februbary 14, 2020 left AHL Utica's game Friday with concussion-like symptoms.

--
Ferland's concussion specialist in 2019:
In short, when an athlete is cleared to play after suffering a concussion, and they suffer concussion-like symptoms shortly after returning, it’s usually a case of the brain injury not fully healing, which is more common than you may think.

The most important thing now for Ferland and the Canucks is to make sure that he is 100% healthy before attempting to make a return.
After yesterday, they really should look for long term health for MF.

No update on Ferland from Coach Green. "We feel for him, he's worked hard and wants to get back playing. We'll take it a day at a time."

Fantenberg remains in concussion protocol.

Graovac is starting to skate.

"Good sign" Motte was back at practice. No timeline.
