Karlsson ain’t happening so let’s move on from this pre-teen fantasy and starting talkin’ straight
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

There aren’t any. There’s a few decent second pairing guys but Karlsson is the only elite guy.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 7:50 pmThis is true

Strahlman, Myers, Jensen... there’s also the trade route

Or do nothing so we can have this conversation again this time next year, but instead of Karlsson, we're debating on Josi and Barrie.

Is the West conference being so bad a good thing or bad thing for the Canucks?
If this was last year the Canucks would already be out of a playoff spot, not officially but to get the 94 points they would have to get 37 points out of the remaining 26 games. But with the bar so low now who knows what it will take to make the playoffs?
For the rebuild of the team can anyone here (other than [MOD EDIT]) say the rebuild is complete? What will management think?
I hope they clearly understand that this team still needs 1 – 2 more top 6 and at least 2 top 4 defence. The 2019 FA is not the time to blow their wad on any FA picks ups or make any significant trades involving their 2019 draft picks. They need to hunker down and play this out and look toward 2021/22 season to really start making hay.
I do think it is a good thing for the young guys to learn to play more important games but at the end of the season if they are in the running for a lottery pick. To put things in perspective they are currently 20th in the league and would pick 11th, not a bad place for the Genius to do his magic.

Well in fairness to Mick, it did seem Reef is indicating he would prefer your Vancouver Canucks to miss the playoffs

Re: The "ALL HOCKEY / NO BS" hockey talk thread
The Western Conference isn't "so bad".
3 of the top 4 teams (by points) are in the West... and the 3 worst teams are in the East.
Yes, it will most likely take less points to make the playoffs than usual
... but I think it has more to do with parity in the West than anything else.
And if it were 2 seasons before that, Canucks would only need to get to 87 points to make the playoffs.
That's only 30 points needed in these last 26 games.
*shrug*
It seems to me like you're vaguely conveying the message that even if Canucks make the playoffs
... they really don't deserve to be in the playoffs?
Is that what you're trying to say?
Because if that's the case then I must disagree my good man!
Every team in the West has a shot at the playoffs right now
... meaning every conference game is super important
... meaning these teams are going to battle even harder than usual down the "stretch drive".
Whichever teams are the most successful in that environment, definitely deserve to be in the playoffs!
No one would think the rebuild is over if we make the playoffs.
Doubtful, it's extremely unlikely they are as smart as you.
To put things in another perspective, Canucks could make the playoffs and still end up drafting 16th
... still a great "spot for a genius", no?

All comes down to parity - and if we make the playoffs, then why not think we could steal a series?

It's great for the kids to strive for a goal... and ever better if they attain that goal.
Drafting a few spots later isn't a concern...

Not so long ago one of the criticisms of Canuck President Trophy teams was that they padded their point total against teams like Edmonton, Colorado and Calgary. Were they crap teams, or were the Canucks that dominant? Now Vancouver is on the opposite side of the coin.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

We are a crap team; we just have some pieces who are giving us hope that the crap team years will soon be over. Nobody should fool themselves into thinking this team can run with the likes of Winnipeg, San Jose, and Nashville, let alone do anything against Eastern Conference contenders. Take the higher draft picks for now.Topper wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 6:10 pm Not so long ago one of the criticisms of Canuck President Trophy teams was that they padded their point total against teams like Edmonton, Colorado and Calgary. And of course there is the Edmonton example of finishing very low or last and still not improving.
The point is; You "can be", or "fighting to be", a playoff team and still succeed at the draft table, hence bettering your team.
