Canucks camp & preseason 2018/2019

Now the real work begins.
Unlike last year, a full camp and preseason.
Should be very high intensity this time around.

Also will be interested how Green and his staff will handle things in their second year.
Should get a pretty clear indication of that right off the bat.

Will the team make any trades before regular season starts?

Yup I wonder which rookies outshine some of the fringe more seasoned players.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I think gaudette could get Gagner or Granlund waived/traded. Dahlen has a shot as well.

It would be fantastic to never see gagger in blue and green ever again

Yeah, it's going to be nice.

For all the times it's been said there was 'competition for spots', this is the first year there really is defined competition for spots and roles. Skill prospects are competing for skill spots, grinders competing for grinding spots. No free rides anymore.

Nice to have depth.

I think there are 4 players, Juolevi, Gaudette and the twins from another mother, who could have a shot. I’m just not convinced that Benning will see them as ready, with the exception of Gaudette. The Swedes need top six ice and I think the club wants to see Goldobin in the least have a shot. Juolevi isn’t ready for top 4 in the NHL and I’d rather him play in Utica in the top four, for a bit anyway.

Gaudette plays a heavy game and can play bottom six.

Inspire of what Benning says I don’t see them waiving a lot of vets.

Think everyone knows how I feel about Gagne, ah-em, but anyways, and seriously, I don't know if I truly see a spot for Granlund anymore.
I was quite wrong last year in regards to the progress he could make here and it wasn't for the lack of chances.
Think now, we've seen about all there can be.
We could conceivably get something, but maybe more important, open another spot.

There were rumours last season that Minnesota was interested but I heard they offered only a 4th. That might’ve the best return we get but I think there is more to his game. He’s not a Green favourite and that hindered him more last season than anything.

Well we'll see how these youngsters perform vs the vets of the league, where the play is much faster and heavier.

But yeah as HW said, I'd deal Gagner for a 4th.

Pettersson and Gaudette right now have the best chance imo to make it, the fans want EP in, plus the coaches/mgmt have seen EP's super lethal shot and playmaking ability, he needs to play and get the pro experience it's the only way he'll get better as time goes on in the NHL.

Pettersson at wing to start the season seems like a prudent move, while Manny Malhotra helps him with faceoffs all season long.

While the centers Horvat, Sutter, Gaudette, Beags hold the fort for the time being while the team transitions Elias Pettersson to center by season's end.

Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser
Eriksson - Sutter - Pettersson
Goldy - Gaudette - Virtanen
Roussel - Beagle - Granlund/Schaller
Leipsic - Gaunce

The interesting battle will be with Dahlen, if he plays Bure-lightish with the pros he very could push out a vet as well, he'll have to play lights out all September, from practice to games.

Pouliot/Hutton vs Juolevi this preseason.

Finally Nilssy vs Demko.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Let the young rookie adjust to the pro game with some Vets for a bit yo.

Dahlen can play with Horvat if he brute forces his way on the team, and so long as both JD/EP are on the squad they'll find there way to play together in no time.

*And hey Eriksson might get rejuvenated being the vet and playing with Dahlen - Pettersson in due time.

Dahlen is a longshot to make the team. Remember, last year he couldn't even crack the Utica lineup. Best case scenario is he gets a few games here and there.
