Keep the pick. For fuck sakes keep the pick

No way. We're likely to have another high pick next June in a draft deep with centers.

Keep the pick. Centers are the most valuable commodity. Try to get a right-handed, top-pairing Dman from later in the draft.

No doubt. If you’re trading your 1st on the draft floor in your own city a top 6 or top 4 are insufficient. Top 3 or top 2 or starter, are minimum acceptable returns.

Struggling to get a feel of where the Canucks will be picking in the 2019 draft. I really like the two WHL D-men - Byram and Robertson. Also liked Cozens at Hlinka and Lavoie at the Summer showcase. Krebs not sure we need his type of game. I know nothing about Newhooks game. Also liked Dach’s game.

Gotta think we are a lottery team again which means more goodness added to an already excellent prospect pool. Good times ahead

I am 100% in agreement, just wondered how everyone would feel if they did trade it. So much talk about Aqua wants to win now could mean a trade. JB also (as others have said) marched to his own drum.

Yeah HW, weird to see Dude and Blob now switch socks and passing the Lysol back and forth. Also sad to see Paddy wear a Tuna and troll these boards.

But I have to say, it's been a rather nice summer since we had a break from the usual shite. So refreshing!

The anticipation of EP coming, another year of Brock and maybe a few surprises like Juolevi, Hockey_Gaud and Demko, seeing Hughes perform so well... it's definitely been a nice change from the doom and gloom. Yeah, we're still going to struggle this year, but... Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Some derailments, some decent discussions (even from Reef) ;)

I've actually enjoyed hanging out here the last little while.

Can't wait until the shit is everywhere again
Paddy’s turncoating, becoming a Leaf loyal is and was thee single most tragic event to ever take place in CC History, that and the disappearance of The THINKER, aka TAFKATT and the Artist.

As part of kicking off next year’s ticket drive I have heard that the Canucks want to have some sort of draft weekend part(ies). I imagine that will include having at least one 1st round pick. I can’t see Benning going into a home draft by trading his 1st. I’m with Blob, and many others, I’d love to see him get at least one more 1st rounder which means at the very least Tanev goes.

We really don’t have anything, that we want to part with, that will bring back another lottery pick though. But if he could get 1-2 more picks between 16-31 to go along with our own pick it would make for an exciting draft. Last time we had the draft here we traded for Luongo. Gotta top that one.

I’m planning to go to the draft next year, doubt I’ll get picked though.

I’d imagine the Dude will be rolling to the draft in style. Prefuel at the Astoria with his posse and paint the town red.

I went to the draft in 1990 at the old Coliseum. Man, that was a lot of fun.

It was such a deep first round. We had 3 picks and I was so pumped afterwards. Well, we know how that turned out.

Need Tanev to have career year and an injury free one

Need Juolevi to show up to make Tanev/Edler expendable

Need Hughes to have an amazing sophomore college year and WJC

If we are going to trade one of Tanev or Edler. Only one of these two will land you a first rounder at the TDL if the stars align

I think both Tanev and Edler could land first rounders if they stay healthy. Thing is if you deal both a bottom 3 D (at best) would then easily become far and away the leagues worst. It could take years to build it back up.

I’m fine dealing one but the other has to stay

The other option would be to trade a recent draft pick. Someone like Virtanen or Gaudette or Tryamkin could be dangled to turn a 3rd rounder into a mid first, and those types of deals could happen quickly in the lead-up to the draft or even on the draft floor. Start something around Juolevi and you might be able to get into the top-10.

Not that I think that's terribly advisable from a long-term organizational depth standpoint, but if they're looking to make a splash on the draft floor that would be one way to do it.

Although I expect us to be firmly in lottery territory, if the Canucks can even do what the Islanders did in Dallas (walking out with Dobson and Wahlstrom), I think we'd be very happy.

Why would NYI and Ottawa do this?
If Ottawa loses Karlsson for nothing (or only gets a 2nd for negotiating rights), plus they lose their lotto pick, they will be desperate to add a 1st.

Plus they only have 6 forwards signed through next season - and 2 of those are MacArthur and Bobby Ryan.

Problem is, I wouldn't trade a top-6 pick for Tkachuk, and they have nothing to add to the deal. No picks, no prospects, no roster players. Nonetheless, I could see Ottawa making a move so long as they net more assets in prospects and picks than they give up in Tkachuk.

I can't see NYI trading Dobson though. Then again, I didn't foresee Lou trading the Horvat pick for a backup goalie, so anything can happen.

But while I can see it being worthwhile to exploit Ottawa's vulnerability to try to get Tkachuk for a steal (particularly if the Canucks wind up with a mid-1st pick), I wouldn't want to pay NYI's price for Dobson.
