Skip the anomalies, how about the following looking at only the top 3 rounds
Masin, MacLeod, Yan, Spencer, Stephens

Then there is
2018 - no 1st
2015 - no 1st
2013 - no 3rd or 4th
2011 - no 4th
2010 - no 2nd

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Of course let’s just dismiss the good players. If you piss the picks away you won’t get any hidden gems.

More picks = more chances.

yes, you have dismissed the good players.

go back to only 2014, Bennings 1st draft, who ya got? Point. Where are Masin and MacLeod from that draft? Both taken ahead of Point. There were 78 pick above Point. Why did he not go until then?

You've lost the plot with using outliers.

Shall we think about this? After all, he was one.

TSN Radio Vancouver

Gillis: As GM of a team, I think people have this wrong. It's really only the first pick that you have a lot of influence on. People have this idea that you're drafting, but you're not. Your scouts are drafting. You weigh in on the first pick, particularly if it's a top-10 pick

Demko for Montour. Shoots right. 24 years old or Virtanen for Fabbro

Gillis I think is mostly right. Most GM’s that talk about will tell you that after the first round it’s down to your scouts. Benning is one of the few exceptions and that is a product of his background and true love, scouting. But he also says that after the first 1-3 rounds he relies heavily upon his scouts.
The only HW the Canucks need

Pierre LeBrun:

"Idea from Shane Doan who now works at NHL Hockey Ops: once a team is officially eliminated,

motivate clubs to win by rewarding most points accumulated in the standings to end of the season with the top overall pick...

a mini-derby between eliminated teams to win for the pick..."

He was the boss, all final team building decisions went through him

In 6 years of drafting - only Hutton. Just putrid, disgusting really. Gillis needs to own this, the architect. He needs to stop throwing others under the bus

“Disrespectful” - Mike Babcock

We gave up a major young asset for Horvat

It was for a top 10 pick.

He sucked at drafting and everyone knows it.

Why are you still flogging away on this?

Hdub was making excuses for the worst drafting GM in hockey history
