Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs
Well I've been predicting that the new core would lead us to the playoffs by spring 2019... since the summer of 2015.
I based this upon my perception of the brilliance of Jim Benning.
Yeah, only a super-genius could take us from where we were then to that place in the course of "3 - 4 years".

As an asside where will Vancouver finish in the Pacific next season?
San Jose
LA
Vegas
Calgary
Edmonton
Anaheim
Phoenix
Vancouver
I don’t think they will be any better than 6th and that’s if everything goes well.

Canucks are in the basement again. And that's fine. Play the kids, collect the picks. Hopefully some excitement at the entry draft.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 9:54 am As an asside where will Vancouver finish in the Pacific next season?

I think we tussle with Arizona for 7th and 8th. It’s devatable which of us has more unreliable goaltending.
Edmonton and Calgary scrap it out for 5 and 6. Oilers have goaltending and some of the best top line punch, but lack depth and their blue line is bottom 15. Calgary has no goaltending, more distributed scoring in their top 9, and their defensive corps should be better, but Gio is old and they’ll need a new leader.
Vegas will drop off from last season barring a big splash in the trade market. It’s be tween them and the Ducks for 3rd and 4th.
I think 1st place is San Jose’s to lose, but LA should pack a wallop this year compared to last.

Great question! Worthy of its own thread, in the dog days of summer, IMESHO.Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 9:54 am As an asside where will Vancouver finish in the Pacific next season?

I think LA will see a big drop. They fluked out last year with career years from Brown (34 in Nov), Kopitar (31 in Aug), Doughty, and Quick. Those turnaround seasons got them to 4th in the West. Adding the 34-year old Kovalchuk will only improve the team if Brown, Kopitar, and Doughty continue to put up career-highs. If they go back to the 2014-2017 production, they will possibly miss the playoffs.
I'm not impressed with Calgary's moves either. They added Neal, made their D worse by trading away Dougie, and didn't address their goaltending.
Vegas and Edmonton are both Jekyll-and-Hyde teams to me, I have no idea what to expect from either. I think Vegas is more likely to wilt under the pressure after drastically over-achieving, and we'll see the SCF Knights instead of the WCF Knights.
I'd say Anaheim and LA are both contingent on aging cores sustaining high production. The Canucks and Oilers are contingent on young players continuing to progress. Three of the bubble teams - Canucks, Oilers, Flames - have questionable goaltending. A hot year from any of those teams' goaltenders will likely put them into the playoffs.
I'd put the Canucks at a low of 6th in the Pac, and a high of 4th.

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs
Doughty is a top 3 d man in the game. His season was no fluke, neither was Kopitar’s or Quick’s season. They are top 5 players in the league at their positions. I’ll grant you Brownie had a flukey season and looked like he was back in 2012. Still they have Muzzin and Martinez on that back end as well. They would be the Canucks best d men. If Carter is around for the year, that would be huge and now they have Kovalchuk. Factor in Pearson and Toffoli and that’s still a damn good team. Yes they are old but they are also good and big and very deep. This squad has another good year or two in them yet.
Calgary may have downgraded from Hamilton to Hanifin but they added Lindholm and Neal and only lost Ferklund up front. I don’t think they make playoffs but they should be in the hunt.
Mëds, I think Anaheim will miss Kesler big time. Yes I know he was injured and bad last year but he was still a damn good player in 15-16. Getzlaf can’t do it all. The D is still decent and they could challenge for a wildcard if all goes right but they are trending down and Carlyle is a terrible coach.
I don’t see Vancouver as a bubble team. They are more of a blister team.

Kesler will likely miss the entire season... in fact he might be done for good.
Perry was last seen falling off a cliff. (looks at Reef)
Of course they still have that great young dee core and Gibson
... but personally I see them as a bubble team this year.

Re: When will the Canucks Next make the playoffs
I see Boeser exploding as a superstar this season and scoring more than 50 goals on the top line.
But the surprising thing is he’ll score fewer goals than Pettersson who will give the Canucks the most dominate second line in the league. They’ll easily make the playoffs and finish first in the division.
But the even more surprising thing is Pettersson won’t even win the Calder when he scores more goals than Selanne did in his rookie season.
Hughes will win Calder after leading the league in assists - 172.
Also, Demko will be the best rookie goalie since Dryden with a .962 save percentage.
The other teams in the division will miss the playoffs because they all suck!
In fact, they won’t have playoffs this season and will present the Stanley Cup to the Canucks who will be leading the league in points when WWIII breaks out, just Trump being Trump.
But at least before we all die in the nuclear armageddon we’ll have seen the Canucks win the cup.
So, it’ll be a good season, but we’ll all be dead.
