Sometimes you just have to go for gold, like the Sharks traded scraps for EK, showed him the good life in SJ, then re-signed him.

I BET the same could be said for Vancouver, show Trouba the good life here, he and Hughes get us into the playoffs, = 8 year contract re-sign x 8, a UFA contract.
Sharks had a way better team. I’d personally need the extension in place. This team can’t afford to give away assets like that for a one year rental
Sens get another 2nd since EK re-upped.

It would kind of be like us sending Baertschi, Gaudette, Hutton, and the picks... While it would probably be worth it to acquire a franchise player, I'm not sure that should be considered "scraps".
As long as our core is untouched, we should be open for businessl

To me there are six core pieces in the organization.

Petey
Bo
Quinton
Brock
2019 1st
2020 1st

The only piece I’d be remotely interested in dangling would be this year’s pick IF it returned a younger top six forward or top 4 d man on a long term contract.

I don’t touch the 2020 pick. That could easily end up top 5 and its even a better draft than this one. If Edler walks and Elmer replaces him with an inferior player like Gardiner or Myers the wheels could fall off early next year.

Yep - core pieces only go for major upgrades. The rest of the roster is fine to move for upgrades, but there's no reason to move the 10th this year unless it's a very young player coming back, or keeps us high in the 1st round.

The 2020 1st should be completely off limits as next year's draft looks ridiculous.

Today is the start of the big rumors.
Or if there hadn't been terrible officiating, would have suffered a first round exit.....

They are decent, playoff-caliber team, and the division has no clear frontrunner. Its fine to go for it. But signing Karlsson likely is less than holding serve, as it is going to be difficult to keep them all together and some of those contributors are getting long in the tooth. (Figuratively, re Thonrton and Pavelski; literally with Couture! What teeth!)

If EK can put his groin issues behind him, he still has a long and successful career ahead of him. He's worth every penny IMO, but those soft tissue issues...

If Edler walks, I could see the Canucks trying to land BOTH of Gardiner and Myers. I believe they want significant change on the back end.

Well after we dump Loui, "if Edler walks" we'll HAFTA sign them both to reach the cap floor! :)

Ottawa is hot to trot to add salary as well. Louie can play top 6 over there and melnyk can save 3 million below the cap floor.

There’s lots of other ways for Ottawa to get to the floor. They don’t have to take on three years of the laziest player in the league. I have my doubts whether he’d be a top six forward in Utica.

Yup, and they need forwards!

Also they have 3 goalies signed to NHL contracts...

Loui for Condon, pitter patter!

Hughes - Tanev
Gardiner - Myers
Hutton - Stecher

:D

Blob the point of using eriksson to get to the floor is his contract in real dollars lowers the salary cap floor by 3 million. Melynk has no money 3 million is a big deal. I bet they try to get eriksson and backes out of Boston, both contracts after July 1 bonuses are a lot lower real dollar amount compared to actual cap hit.

Hughes and Tanev would get eaten alive in front of Markstrom though.

Swap Gardiner and Hughes.

Lol you guys act like the guy is penniless like Nelson Skalbania. Eriksson is a laughingstock of the league and his comments and bitching shitcanned his value even more after a stellar 3 hit season

There’s lots of ways for Ottawa to take on cap than to take a cancerous prick like Eriksson
