I may have mis-heard, but what I understood from the Aquilini interview was that JB was calling to tell him what JB thought they needed to do (send Sam down) and after some discussion Aquilini was convinced that such was the right move and gave his (begrudging) blessing to go ahead with it.

That said, if it was pre-move, it still shows Aquilini was receptive to reasoned merit-based roster decisions in his allowing more deserving younger players to push out highly paid vets (at the expense of his pocket book).

It appears we'll have to wait another day to find out what's going to happen.
Patrick Johnston

Asked Jim Benning via text just now if there's a roster move coming today. "We're talking about that right now, deciding on what we're going to do roster wise," he replies. The daily waiver update from the league is in less than 30 minutes.

*Update: sounds like the Canucks are indeed making a move — so we're assuming Roussel is indeed in — but we don't know the player being taken off the roster to make room. We're in non-roster player designation zone.

Ryan Biech: If a team places a claim on a player that is on waivers (i.e. Franson) and have 23 players on roster - they can exercise 16.12b in the CBA to designate a player as non-roster and then place on waivers/assign the following day.

This also covers players returning from IR.

He should clear pretty easily and help out Utica on the ass end. Perfect partner for Olaf imho

Yup and he's a former Comets captain that should help them out, and Utica has to send someone to the ECHL, good problems to have for both clubs.

Geez, Not 100% he'll clear this time.
Already injuries around the league.

You may be a genius.
I am. Just ask me!
But I was also wrong.

Goes to show you even geniuses like Benning and I make mistakes. :D

Don’t mind Beiga going down even if he is lost on waivers. He is all heart, but limited, and overwhelmed if fed too many minutes. A kid should be the next call up.

The best thing about Biega is he could sit in the presser for however many games and be ready when called.
The bad was if he played more than one or two games, he got cocky and tried to do too much.

Well maybe Gaudette gets a chance on the big club earlier than expected, he has 4 points in the last 2 games with Utica.

Beagle out with random shot block injury, after 5 games, why it's good we have both Sutter & Beagle down the middle in the bottom six.

Unfortunately we don't have two Pettersson types, so hopefully EP's alright and not too hurt.
