He did amazing work with a roster in FLA they didn't really have any elite players and now has a system in place with 100% buy in from him players in Vegas.

WPG was a favourite for the cup. Big, fast, skilled team with strengths at every position. Gallant loses a game, doesn't flinch and leads his team to basically a 4-game sweep of the Jets.
I agree Gallant has done a good job, but Vegas has a good roster.
Yes STALWART.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

He’s a pretty fringe player on that roster and was a healthy scratch off and on recently

No assessment of Sbisa's ability favours the ownership/management group that made him part of the Canucks organization.

If he is a good player, then they were savvy in getting him as part of the Kesler trade, but fools to leave him exposed.

If he is a poor player, then they were wise to expose him, but got fleeced that much worse in the Kesler trade.

Either way, they are left with one less asset from that transaction.

Ultimately it wasn’t a great trade. Yes Kesler tied their hands but it’s a pretty underwhelming return at the end of the day. But you have a handful of posters had to tell us how amazing Sbisa is for the last few years when the eye test tells us the exact opposite. He is a bottom pairing guy paid like a top 4 guy. Yet the way these posters gush on one would think he’s the 2nd coming. So if he was so fucking valuable why not expose 44 instead? Trade one of Tanev or Edler if you have to make room for the stalWART. Or protect less forwards and keep that amazing top 4 d together. It doesn’t add up

While I believe our opinion of the Kesler trade differs slightly, we are on the same page when it comes to the extension that Benning gave The Pizza Guy. However, $3.6M isn't true top 4 money, they tend to be north of $4M. 3 and change is what you pay a guy who is a solid 5 guy who you anticipate saddling with some heavier minutes in relief of injuries and extra PK time.....alternatively he's a guy with the potential to improve and take a place in the top 4 where he plays as a bargain for a while. Both of those descriptions fit what Sbisa was when Elmer acquired him. Considering where we were at, and what we saw after the first year here, he overpaid by close to $1M.....but there was still the potential for Sbisa to improve and produce once he adjusted to a new coach and teammates.

It will be telling when we see what Vegas does with him now that he is an UFA.

Faulty logic.

Canucks needed a physical #5 dman so they had Sbisa included in the Kesler trade as a throw-in.

Giving up a physical #5 dman in the expansion draft is pretty good considering what other teams gave up.

BTW is a physical #5 dman who can fill-in in the top-4 a "good player" or a "poor player"?? :?

(or somewhere in between)

Every team lost an "asset" in the expansion draft, come on Cliffy...

Vegas' management team understands what Sbisa is. He's a marginal player being deployed accordingly (6th in dman TOI in the playoffs) by a good hockey team.

The Canucks were betting on Sbisa becoming the guy drafted in the first round and playing in the NHL at 18. Almost like Sutter, they doubled down by offering him a contract extension based off what they thought they could get out of him, not what he'd shown to date. He's a bottom-pairing player that can be effectively replaced by someone making around $1M.

Sbisa being on the ice with under 5 to play holding on to a 1-goal lead in a game that will send his team to the SCF.

Gallant gave an interview a short while ago and was asked about making players accountable. His response was somewhere along the lines of he doesn't believe in that. He said when you hold players accountable after the make a mistake then every time they hit the ice they are focusing on not making that mistake and getting away from playing hockey.

Willie D set this team so far back. He should have been let go after that debacle against Calgary and then as soon as the team started to falter in his 2nd session behind the bench.

Gallant is a genius coach, Florida and their fancy stats crew pretty much fcuked up their team in record time.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

He was 95th in cap hit for D men this season. That puts him firmly in top 4 pay.
