So with the Twins retiring I imagine a couple more vets decide to move on, now JB can be like the Bruins and NYR and deal some vets for picks and prospects, keep massive cap space, unless a Tavares, Carlson or Karlsson decide to come here ha.

Kane though seems to be consensus choice to sign, but I wouldn't go anything over $6M per, so with that I can see some other team overpaying for him, heck could be SJ.
I'd keep Edler. Reup him for two years. I'd trade Tanev, Eriksson, Del Zotto, Hutton and maybe Gagne.
Right on, HW. I had wondered about the condition of Edler's back but here we are, late in the year and he looks great and seems strong.
If Tanev stays here, he'll keep getting hurt. A change could actually be good for him. A later deal with the leaves could come into play, patients.
Not overly exuberant about Gagne's demeanor. Seems to see himself as a leader. Guess he forgot he's a place holder.
No ideas for an Eriksson move, don't see how, but:
This might seem off the wall but with the retirements, we may see something worthwhile out of him. Something he doesn't even know yet.

Issues... far too many to deal with.

Dank needs to get 30 points in three games, without Hank getting any, if he wants to tie his brother in points.

Yikes, that would make him an 80 point player this year.

If Hank can get two more assists, he will have twice as many career assists as any Canuck not named Sedin.

Thanks for the tribute video link, Strange. That was great. If any of you haven't watched, do it. It's particularly fun watching Oilers and Flames defenses get repeatedly ruined.

The brothers will be missed. We were treated to many years of fantastic puck-movement and highlight goals. Thank you Daniel and Henrik.

Man, I've forgotten about some of these plays there's been so many!

That was a thing of beauty when they completely ventilated Kipper, Daniel with the between the legs goal was simply magical.

The Sedins kept me interested when my fandom faltered with the Messier fail and Bure's defection (trading Linden away never bothered me....).

Even when they weren't yet good players, I enjoyed watching their shifts. They thought the game differently, you could tell that from the beginning.

Remarkably, they went from stickmen who would fall at contact (do you remember drinking games?) to two of the strongest players on their skates in the league. They were Forsbergian in their ability to keep possession, shield the puck, and stay on their skates.

The potential really started to show itself in the 2003-2004 season. That was the year that the Sedins -- who hadn't fully made the transition themselves -- made Jason King look like the rookie of the year. For a month. That was the season that for they combined with Arvedsson for a couple of weeks and made the checking line winger look like a first liner until he suffered a season ending injury. One game, I think they bounced two goals of Wade Brookbank.... When Naslund was concussed, Daniel and Henrik skated with Bertuzzi against the Red Wings -- a team that was still among the best in the game -- and Daniel scored 4 goals.

After the lockout season, the debate about the Canucks went from "do the Sedins provide enough secondary scoring" to "who is the first line?" By the end of the season, it was Sedin, Sedin, and Carter, not Mo, Bert, and Naslund. And the next ten years, the Canucks were the Sedins team. And those years included unquestionably the best team the Canucks have ever iced -- division titles, Presidents Trophies and one game short of the Cup. Along the way, they picked up an Art Ross, a Hart, and whatever award that the NHLPA gives out for best player.

I still like watching their shifts (usually). Henrik's taken several steps back in the past two seasons -- particularly his ability to stay on the puck and receive passes. When a hands players hands go, all that's left is that enormous head. Which still makes him interesting to watch. Daniel remains dynamic, and this season has probably been his best in the past 3.

I wish they were here for another season so Daniel could get to 400 goals. And because they are still the best bet on the power play. And because they are more effective than all but 2 other forwards on the team.

I'd have preferred another year or two, but they owe me nothing. And they have given all of us so much. Godspeed, Daniel and Henrik, and thank you.

I wasn’t expecting to be this sad.

I’m torn on the another year or two thing. For most of the year, I was convinced they would come back on one or two year deals. Sometime around January it really hit me that this could be it.

On the one hand, for better or for worse, this is Bo and Brock’s team now. The Sedins have nothing left to prove. It does feel like time – 2011 was so long ago now. There’s zero chance the Canucks are sniffing the cup in the next two years. Another year or two risks serious injury. I totally respect wanting to leave healthy and on their own terms. It would be devastating to see one of them suffer a serious injury. The way Iginla went out was rather pathetic.

On the other hand, I still enjoy watching them play. I would have loved to see them both eclipse 1,100 points and for Danny to pot his 400th goal.

It was amazing watching these guys progress from two skinny bambi’s on the ice, guys who had trouble staying on their feet, to one of the most feared offensive duos in NHL history. Incredible. The whole story from the draft, to playing together all these years, to retirement is awesome. Love it. Love these guys. I’ll miss them.

Two more points and he moves into sole possession of 65th in all time points for an NHL player, Daniel is sitting in 73rd and needs 9 to pass Rocket Richard.

I was only going to drop one or two posts on this topic and leave it at that but fuck it, this is significant, this is special,..this is damn important (actually kinda disappointed to see only 4 pages so far on this topic). Yesterday was more of a shock to the system because it happened a little sooner than most of us thought, but today reality is really starting to sink in.

Thanks for your posts Per, UWSaint, and the dudes posting vid links highlighting their greatness....though I don't need any reminders. The vid highlights I haven't watched yet because most of those plays are already permanently implanted in my memory, much like Pavel's goals, but mostly want to refrain from having a reaction like HW and would rather save the emotions for Thursday and Saturday.

One thing we like to do here is bash the team's propensity to retire numbers for players who don't fully deserve the honour, which I agree with to a degree, but is there any doubt with the Twins? The only thing missing is a ring, but....

Career with same team: check
1,000+ games: check
1,000+ points: check
Team season scoring titles: check (multiple)
All time team point leaders: check
Community service champions: check
League MVP: check
League scoring titles: check x 2
Division titles: check (multiple)
Presidents Trophy: check x 2
Stanley Cup appearance: check

Another thing I'd like to add at a time when two other Canadian markets are recently celebrating rare feats for them of cracking the 100 point barrier, the Canucks have only done it 9 times themselves, but 8 of them were under the Sedins watch..not coincidentally. 5 times in 130 years combined for the leaves and Jets. 8 times in 17 years for the Sedins….that alone is reason enough to retire their numbers.

The Sedins will have their numbers retired without question! They can do it immediately after Saturdays game as far as I'm concerned,

They are sure fire Hall of Famers. Pretty much the first Canucks to attain that status, Pavel the only other one but his longevity was the only question mark.

Absolutely the twins numbers should be retired.

While they raise the jerseys they can pull down 12, 16 and 19.
