I'll be happy if Virtanen can crack the top 6 in Utica and put up 50-60 points. He NEEDS to develop into a scorer. The team can find another Dorsett or White etc. You don't turn a number 6 overall pick into a 15 point , 9 minute a night player. Let him ride the buses until he can find the back of the net regularly. He scored 18 fucking points in the AHL last season.

Scroll down and you can see the roster sheet for the day...

Bet they take five lines of forwards to China. My guess is the top three lines on the Sedin team and the top two lines on the Horvat team. The rest get to stay and the veteran quota will get filled by Megna, Chaput, White, Boucher, and Biega. How many Vets are necessary for a pre-season line-up? The kids that don't go to China will definitely get a chance to shine this preseason, or at least experience an NHL style beat down.

If he earns a spot on your Vancouver Canucks 4th line it's all good.

He can work his way up from there...

Please provide me a list of players who went from 15 - 20 point players in the AHL who actually became something in the NHL. And dont use Cindarella Burrows who was gifted a spot with the twins

Ryan Kesler springs to mind (same PPG in his first AHL season as Virtanen).

Then he was brought up to play on the 4th line of your Vancouver Canucks.

But there are many, many players who put up ZERO points in the AHL who...

"actually became something in the NHL".

I must say Mr Bubbles, the more you drink, the more... interesting... your logic becomes.

You seem to be saying that if Jake earns a 4th line spot... he should be sent down anyway.

Hilarious that you decree that for some ludicrous reason we can't count proven NHLer Alex Burrows!

The bar has been set very low for Virtanen. Green is talking of him being a "regular NHL'er" and finding a role (ie maybe Raffi Torres?). Nobody is looking for an impact player any more.

Other 2014 draft picks, Nylander in particular, are already pondering Draisaitl-esque contract extensions. Nylander and Ehlers both have 60 point NHL seasons under their belts.

It's safe to say picking such a project was a mistake for this franchise.

Not sure what you're snorting but none of that has any basis in reality.

Mr Green is simply preaching as a coach what he practiced as a player.

Not safe to say anything this early in the game.

We're developing a different kind of beast here (than your Nylander/Ehlers).

And by "beast" I mean asshole power forward.

Of course the resident BJ queen has to chime in...

"Make yourself into an everyday NHL player that has a long career,” Green said. “I think that should be his goal right now. I don’t think we need to predict whether he’s going to be in the top six or bottom six.”

Yeah.... coach is setting the bar high there.

The Canucks could've really used a top-30 or 35 NHL scorer. Where did Jake rank in AHL scoring last year?

Yeah.... coach is setting the bar high there.
Yeahno.... coach is taking some of the the pressure off a top young prospect there.

And as I said, Mr Green is preaching the attitude he had as a player...

You know you're losing a debate when you call your opponent a... "BJ queen"

He's merely articulating Jake will not produce at the rate that similar draft picks from his draft year have already shown themselves capable of producing, and thus hoping fans don't expect similar production out of his player. Not "setting the bar low", merely "articulating our expectations."

It would be unfortunate to have passed on a first-line forward for a fourth (maybe third?)-line checker.
