I would argue he'd have fetched more because, based on their whole body of work in general, JT looks to be (roughly) at least 5 goals and 10 points better. If Hayes is indeed going to be a contract benchmark going forward (good Christ), then JT's contract is indeed a bargain for 4 more years. I, like most everyone else, had severe sticker shock with that 1st rounder - I think because it's not a sexy pickup. But it is a really solid one. Benning seems to have paid for cost certainty at a good cap hit and good term. Did he over pay? Without being an insider we will likely never know. The occasions where it seems he has negotiated against himself lead to scepticism. All things remaining consistent JT should be putting up Horvat numbers at the same value price tag...Well hopefully Horvat continues to trend upwards but I digress. I just hope the idiot Vancouver fans don't run Miller out of town because they think Gmjb overpaid.
Oh yeah...thats exactly how it'll go if he stumbles at all.

Hoping he comes out of the gate on fire and doesnt slump til hes proven himself a little first.

Using the analogy and the current topic, I'd say if miller doesnt come out hot then the whole herd is gonna run a train on your cow while you shuffle down the hill fluffing your age-d member

The Flyers didn’t cough up a 1st and a 3rd for Hayes.

No, the Winnipeg Jets did. Gave up a 1st round pick, Brenden Lemieux and a 4th round pick for him.

The Flyers got an equal player to Miller and spent nothing but cash. They didn’t lob around draft picks like they were going out of style.

Give me Miller’s combination of speed and size (6’-1” 200 lbs) over the lumbering slow Kevin Hayes. Plus Miller is younger

Jets gave up a 1st round pick, Brenden Lemieux and a 4th round pick for Hayes

Talking about what the Flyers gave up ... why the red herring regarding the Jets?

The Flyers basically acquired Hayes negotiation rights after the season ended before Hayes was to become a UFA. The Jets rented him for the playoffs only and were in no position to resign him this off season with Connor and Laine needing big pay raises. Hayes would never sign here as a UFA. Why you bring up UFA Hayes as if the price the Flyers paid to acquire his negotiating rights is somehow relevant to Miller and his contract status can only be explained as weak trolling on your part

If you want a proper comparison use what the Jets gave up to acquire Hayes

You want to spin this in a knot, fill your boots. The Flyers spent a 5th on a similar player.

The Flyers get it. Elmer ... and clearly you... don’t.

Lol. Please stop comparing Miller’s price to acquire to what the Flyers gave up for the rights to negotiate with a UFA. Apples to Oranges my friend. Not to mention the Flyers gave UFA Hayes $7.1 million over 7 years. Ouch!

Hayes will make $7.14M until he's 34, Miller will make $5.25M until he's 30.

Two other teams offered the same trade Canucks did (allegedly).
