My recollection was that Tree liked to play the right side, or was at least equally comfortable with either.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Hes only 24 years old. He hits like a truck and scores 40+ points consistently. The d-zone +/- stats might be more to do with being on a lottery team for 6 straight years than his play. I watched a few sabres games and he was an effective prescence back there. Not saying I'm an expert just that i would take those reports with a grain of saltBlob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 5:08 pmThe guy apparently is a trainwreck in his own end. With Edler signing there's no need for another LHD (Gardiner).
Maybe Myers (if Jets don't re-sign him) but I feel Jimmy will land his RHD in a trade.
Risto has 3 more years @ 5.4/yr.
I can see the 10 OA going out and RR coming back

Re: Canucks Contracts
The plus minus problem with Risto goes back to 16 years old. That leads one to believe might be what they call uncoachable.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 6:35 pmHes only 24 years old. Does't mean worthless, just hard to place in the line-up.
A little older, (not much). Collin Miller would be where I'd look.

What a crazy roller-coaster ride. Sounds like Year 2 signing bonus was another critical part of closing. Great job by Rick on this.Elliotte Friedman added,

Certainly sounds like the #Canucks and Alexander Edler are closing in on a new 2 year deal. Sources say Edler gets a no-trade clause but can be exposed in the Seattle expansion draft.

Official now, 2 year deal. Not sure on the Average salary yet. Rick Dhaliwal is saying 6 mil per year.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Now that's much better - well done in the poker game Jimbo, I wasn't sure you had it in you. A 2 year deal is just about perfect for a guy like Edler.
Time to go get a dman who is actually better than Edler now - this is offseason #6 for Jimbo and Edler is still their best dman. That's pitiful. Change on the back end has to be coming, so I do expect one or both of Tanev and Hutton to be playing elsewhere next year. Anything else and it would be coming back, once again, with the same basic blueline that has failed the past 2-3 seasons.

Hey Baubles, any truth to the rumour Edler also gets a 3rd round pick as part of his deal?

Re: Canucks Contracts
Risto is a good offensive dman, but he's one of the worst defensive players I've ever seen. The guy just doesn't get it, he's one of the major reasons why the Sabres are terrible defensively. Think Jovocop's brain cramps but multiple times each game.Uncle dans leg wrote: ↑Wed Jun 19, 2019 6:35 pmHes only 24 years old. He hits like a truck and scores 40+ points consistently. That said, a RHS dman who can score is a big need so put him with Edler to cover up mistakes and he'd be solid depending on the return (i.e. no chance at the #10 pick).
I still have no idea who Colin Miller's name isn't out there - he's a good skater, scores almost as many points as Ristolainen (41 for each 2 years ago, while Miller had 29 in 65 games last year), RHS, decent size, signed for 3 more years at $3.875 million per versus $5.4 million for Risto, isn't wanted on his current team, is only 26, and Vegas has major cap issues. He's as close to a perfect fit as there is in the market.
Re: Canucks Contracts
I've mentioned Collin Miller a couple of times. Maybe they've tried, haven't heard directly.Diehard1 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:48 am

Right side.
Good plus/minus, (as opposed to Risto). yikes
Good attendance, (sorry Chris).
Probably entering his prime and a great price for three more years.
It may well be a situation where the Canucks don't want to let go of a first round pick next year or a prospect in, or soon to be in,
the system.
If they are trying to shed cap, they wont want any of our roster players that I can think of that we would let go of. Damn it.
Maybe if we could move Tanev first for a pick, then add a bit to it? Ah who knows.
He is the right fit though...

Re: Canucks Contracts
Edler was a 3rd round pick. Shoulda just traded that 3rd for a Linden Vey type player.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Miller has an interesting history...
Won the OHL leadership award as captain of the Greyhounds
Won fastest skater and hardest shot at AHL all-star competition
Traded to Boston in the Lucic to LA move
He also looked damn good in this year's playoffs - notable hard-worker. Heart, speed, heavy shot, decent size, RH. Seems like a great pick-up.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Two thumbs up for Benning on the Edler signing. Great job sticking with the two years.
As per Miller - sure I'd like the addition but depending on the price tag. Hard to part with any of the young talent we have coming up and still think JB needs to hold onto as many picks as possible. Obviously Miller won't come cheap but definitely worth kicking the tires to see what is the asking price.
