I think if they buy out Virtanen the cap hit is 50k for next year and 500 k the year after that. Probably better than taking back some scrub who’s sucking up a couple million bucks off the cap.

Jake has 3 points this year and like 7 points in his last 50 games.

Here’s a possible roster for next year using the numbers discussed above, but without factoring in the player lost in the expansion draft. It’s pretty tight and my numbers may be off, but if not, they could still fit Edler at 3.5, but they wouldn’t have a replacement for Pearson beyond Podkolzin unless Lind or Gadjovich can do the job. A Virtanen buy out would give other possibilities.

FORWARDS (13)
Right wing: Brock Boeser ($5,875,000) - Vasily Podkolzin ($925,000) - Jake Virtanen ($2,550,000) - Zack MacEwen ($825,000)
Centre: Elias Pettersson ($6,000,000) - Bo Horvat ($5,500,000) - Adam Gaudette ($1,000,000) - Jay Beagle ($3,000,000)
Left wing: J.T. Miller ($5,250,000) - Nils Höglander ($891,667) - Jayce Hawryluk ($1,000,000) - Tyler Motte ($1,225,000) - Antoine Roussel ($3,000,000)

DEFENSE (8)
Right: Travis Hamonic ($1,500,000) - Nate Schmidt ($5,950,000) - Tyler Myers ($6,000,000) - Nikita Tryamkin ($2,000,000)
Left: Quinn Hughes ($6,000,000) - Alexander Edler ($3,500,000) - Olli Juolevi ($1,000,000) - Jack Rathbone ($925,000)

GOALTENDER (2)
Thatcher Demko ($6,200,000) - Braden Holtby ($4,300,000)

BUYOUTS (1)
Loui Eriksson ($4,000,000)

DETAILS
Roster Size: 23
Salary Cap: $81,500,000
Cap Hit: $81,451,879
Cap Space: $48,121

They have to resign Eddy once the crackheads jack their booty. Im guessing 3.5? Hes still a helluva good dman
Maybe, but maybe not. He isn’t getting any faster or younger. On the right side they have Juolevi and Rathbone coming and hard choices will have to be made. If Tryamkin is signed, it’s probably a signal that Edler’s time with the Canucks is done.
They have to work their young guys in soon anyways. I could see a scenario where Rathbone and Juolevi come in and neither of Edler nor Tryamkin
do, dependent what happens with Hamonic.

So we basically play the same team as this year with the exception of Pod and Tryamkin (I mean these are the only 2 guys who didn't play a game for the team in 2021)? I know Pearson is gone and Sutter but that team above is screaming another lottery pick in 2022. JB needs to off load Roussel/Beagle/Holtby (easier said than done I know) and walk away from Edler.

I also think QH gets more than $6M.

Did you include Luongo penalty? The Canucks have 1 more year of that.

All but 9 (out of 23) drafted by the Canucks.

I can see Van trading Myers and for sure there would be a market for him even at 6. He makes too much for what he brings to van and Jimmy needs that space.

Its too bad as hes valuable in the lineup but having 3 big tickets coming due at the same time will necessitate some more dramatic changes.

Also, looking at the current roster, who is taken by Seattle? Perhaps we lose one of Beagle or Myers because that’s the best we have to give?

I haven’t really looked at who we need to protect, but we are losing someone who counts against the cap.

There was a time I thought Pettersson & Hughes would do term. I don’t know if I believe that anymore, I don’t think that makes sense.

So your number comes down a little bit.

Tyler Myers takes some flak on this board, but here's some luv for him.

https://canucksarmy.com/2021/03/16/why- ... gBWyutMKpE

He's playing like that offensive D-man that first came into the league and won a Calder. Sure, he has some warts on the defensive side, but I wouldn't say he's bad there. Greener still relies on him to play on the PK and some heavy minutes. Schmidty was brought in to be that other offensive D-man to take the pressure off Huggy, but Myzy has been the guy who has been delivering in that department more consistently. :D

Myers been a ton beter the last handfull of games. Probably because he isn't nursing some mild injury at the moment. When he starts rushing the puck and still gets back in time, he's an excellent player. Could be one of the candidates to snag Sutter's A next year. :P
