Re: Canucks Contracts
I think you can assess it at the end of the year and go from there. As of right now he wouldn’t be overpaid at 5 million on a one year deal. Who knows? Maybe his play craters in the condensed season and you can get him back for 3 million. I don’t think he has any desire to play elsewhere though unless they really make him a rancid offer.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Actually, Eddy had very close to his best season, statistically, in 19/20. Only played 59 but solid numbers. LOL, not always with the most exceptional, low risk partners. This can be said for a few of his years. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 9:16 amSchmidt is a much better player than Eddy is now and will absolutely be logging big minutes including on the PK. Hes not a one dimension player whatsoever.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 9:09 amLol why have two well rounded guys when you can have one? Schmidt has not been a staple on the PK like Edler has for a decade +. This team needs more good players, not less. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 8:55 am Schmidt will be a godsend as far as Edler's durability goes. He will be doing the heavy lifting now so Eddy can settle into a reduced roll. Watch him have a great year with the reduced work load
BTW I'm not advocating losing Edler at all...quite the opposite
Schmidt may be a better skater, particularly at this point, but FFS, who cares.. We need quality Dees. The style of game we play depends on it.
Not big and heavy, nope.. I like fast and furious. That works. We give up chances though. That aint gonna change this year. Maybe a hair.
Bottom six is still mid pack at best in the 31.

Re: Canucks Contracts
I am sure Edler has figured it out. Petey and Quinn get signed, then the scraps are fed to the dogs. Edler is one of the dogs next season.
He may be coming off of a great season, but, we have another whole season to go before he is re-signed. And, after that, Benning will look to sign him for what he is worth going forward, not for what he does this year. My guess is $2million, as that's about all we will have available for him.

Re: Canucks Contracts
Edler was a key piece for the defense that couldnt get the goddamn puck out of their own zone while Schmidt was a key piece for the opponent that was busy keeping that same puck in our zone.
Not heaping blame on Eddy but NS was all over the vancouver breakout and I'm very, very happy he's on our team

Great point Strangelove.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 10:04 pm Guys, Edler's next contract is a 35+ one.
Meaning he can have a lower base salary plus bonuses.
If his play is good enough he'll trigger bonuses.
No doubt something fair for both sides can be worked out...
So what are you thinking... $2M base plus another 2 in potential bonuses?

Perhaps. It all depends on what kind of season he has this year.Strangelove wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:48 amGreat point Strangelove.Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Jan 01, 2021 10:04 pm Guys, Edler's next contract is a 35+ one.

I like what the Doc is presenting.
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Re: Canucks Contracts
You're' right and he likely will continue to be worth more after this season than they'll be able to afford so he'll have to take a decent chunk less than his open market value to remain here. I think the two dollar amounts you've noted are bang on.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Sat Jan 02, 2021 9:32 am I think you can assess it at the end of the year and go from there. Re: Canucks Contracts
Could be the end of it. Sure could have brought a ton to this team if not for the health issues.Rick Dhaliwal @DhaliwalSports
Just talked with #Canucks F Micheal Ferland in Manitoba.
“There are good days and bad days, this last week has been tough because I can not be with my teammates. Being away from the team has been some of the toughest and hardest things in my life”
Ferland is okay with going on LTIR : “I am fine with that. Getting healthy first is my goal. I am not close to being at the NHL level and I have a ways to go.”
[Ferland has heard the calls to retire : “I hear a lot of it, from my wife and family and I understand. I just want to get healthy first”

Re: Canucks Contracts
It’s the end of it for the coming season. Nothing to suggest that he’ll be packing it in. The guy was relentless in trying three separate times to come back last year. He’s stubborn and driven if nothing else.
