Yes, Chris Tanev is clearly the best defender the Canucks have right now, but he's 27, not the biggest guy, and takes a lot of punishment. I fear he will no longer be a regular NHL contributor by the time the Canucks are serious championship contenders again. I think the better rebuild strategy is to sell high and recover assets with good prospects of developing the ability to replace what he brings now in a few years.

Ya Tanev is are steady guy back there. Brings so much to the table. But I have to agree, at 27 with his yearly injuries adding up he won't be much good to us 3-4 years from now, which if the plan goes well is when we should be competing in all seriousness. If we trade him now, well when he's healthy, we could get a nice return.

I'd hate to see him go but when he's healthy we win too much and heck, we aren't ready to compete yet. It plants a false sense that we are ready.
The only HW the Canucks need

Chris Tanev - the analytics KING - you want to win right now or in the the next couple years - he's your' man.

Genius ain't trading Tanev.
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Agreed! Just can't do it. If leading by example means anything, he is everything.

in retrospect Benning should not have traded Bieksa. he was the only real guts we had and our young D could learn from him. Maybe it was Gillis but they screwed up.

I agree as well.

Tanev needs to be re-signed to an extension and retire a Canuck.

(unless of course he wants out)

Is this because you think it's important for the organization to demonstrate loyalty to players who sign as college free agents, or because you think he will still be a significant contributor by the time the Canucks are championship contenders ?

No. I for one do not miss casual Kev one bit. Long gone were the days of him putting on the angry face and tuning someone up. He had been coasting on his reputation for years and was a brutal giveaway machine. All he did in the latter years was scowl and beak off. Every game, without exception, I recall yelling at the tv screen "bieksa. you're brutal!". Now that's pretty much reserved for edler.

Special K breaks the monotony of soggy cold oatmeal.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

A good post for all those who complained that you never commit to a specific prediction.

It will be an exciting race against time. We'll see.
