GM For a Day - what ONE thing would you change?

Post by Cornuck »

It's getting quiet and we can talk about how awesome Spidey is at ball-hockey for so long... ;)

What ONE change would make to the team to improve it? A trade? A FA signing? New logo? New coach?

Is this an all time do over like say a Cam Neely trade or a Benning do over/change. Give me some boundaries.
The only HW the Canucks need

The paint in the GM's washroom.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Hindsight is 20/20 .....

Draft Jagr instead Nedved.

PS - Fix the roulette wheel of 1970 while you're at it!

Sign Lucic, he'll be the only guy with size/skill up front other than maybe Virtanen.

This is a great article on when the Kings gave up a 1st (#13) and Martin + Miller for basically a one year rental of looch. *ouch* Yeah safe to say they lost that trade.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Jason-Le ... /179/69802

It delves into some metrics as well, Lucic best days were of course with Krejci, they as a duo had good corsi numbers. "Over that time the duo held a nice 54% corsi for, and a goals for percentage around 58.6. Excellent numbers." Apart and Lucic levels dropped.

In Boston he played best with cushy zone starts in the attacking zone, but in LA they don't play in such an attacking way, where they preach defensive first tactics.

So anyways he sucks defensively.

Nonetheless we don't need him killing penalties and being a two-way stalwart, we just need him for attacking and hurting people, while hopefully getting back up to 20+ goals again.

Lucic fits in nicely in our 2nd line LW spot beautifully, and as the great Carlin said 'if you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten'.

If the whole draft is one thing, then I build on this to take Martin Brodeur instead of Shawn Antoski. If each pick counts as one thing, then my time-machine do-over is to draft Niklas Lidstrom in the second round in 1989 instead of Rob Woodward.

If dealing with the present-day Canucks, I try to re-hire Pete Twist as strength and conditioning coach, because i think that could have a long-term positive effect on man-games lost to injury. If no amount of the Little Eagles' money will motivate him, then I trade Ryan Miller for the best asset anyone will offer, because i don't think solid veteran goaltending (which I admit he does provide) is important to a rebuilding team.

And of course signing Stamkos would be a game changer, he would change CanucksTown forever.

I give us 11.5% chance that happens tho', just like the NHL draft lottery.

I don't usually care much about jerseys/logos but I've gotta agree with Spidey on this one.

I don't care much about uniforms either, but doesn't any contribution from you to this thread imply that you believe that there is room for improvement, however miniscule, in the job the current GM is already doing ?

Hey buddy, if I had any time to spare I'd be shredding Freddy's sock right now!

Believe it or not I have questioned some of JB's moves in this very forum.

Hey, I've questioned moves of every GM in Canucks history!

I'll try to remember to get back to this and sum it up for you when I get some time...

Later Cliffy!

Apologies, my memory is not what it once was. I look forward to the recap. I hope it will include descriptions of the superior options that Benning should have chosen in those instances where you disagreed.

Lol at Spidey blathering about the jersey. You see he wore a halter type jersey with short shorts when he was third alternate in the tether ball squad back in the day...... But I digress or do I ?

Anyways go with the Johnny Canuck providing it isn't the Twinkie type logo .

I am looking to ........ :mex:
