If you design a retroactive penalty so stupid that it only ever really punishes one club and has to be amended because it poses a liability significant enough to threaten the practical operation of two others, you should probably just repeal it entirely.

Something new...I agree with him on this. So do a plenitude of others. Even outside Canuckdom.

Luongo retired for several reasons. Mostly he was ailing from past injuries and hurting from present conditions that would not get better
through playing. The penalty has always been essentially illegal anyways.
He retired-----no more paycheck.
The Canucks are in a better position right now to say fuck-you, we're not going to pay the last two years. Wanna take it to big boy's court?
Get off your butt Aqua. Quit kissing someone else's.
Yes!! The three million per year for 20-21 and 21-22 is a big deal...

Still it saves Nashville, they won't have to get a $26M cap hit or whatever insane number that was lol, just his AAV now. Preds saved if/when Weber retires. Wild with parise/suter.
I don't know if Nashville is really "saved", they just have a cap on how big the recapture penalty will be - $7.857 mil. I don't think Minny will be affected at all, because the current recapture is less than Parise/Suter's cap hit.

That being said, I'm with Doc that this is, and will remain, the Luongo Rule because it will only be applied to the Canucks.

Yeah I think Burke really wanted that rule to punish Gillis + he was trying to trade for Luongo at the time as well and was using all the power he could.

Sheesh between the draft lotto drops, the highest suspension in the Cup finals with the Aaron Rome hit on Horton (rome has had no history of either of bad hits) equivalent to half a regular season suspension - http://forum.canucks.com/topic/389996-a ... cup-final/

The only team to really suffer the wrath of the cap recapture.

It really is the Canucks vs the world mentality.

aha

Every team has an 'us against the world' mentality, and most teams have am instance or 2 in their history that fans always point to.

We just have more examples than most ;)

It's not "illegal" because it's in the legal legally-binding CBA.

But yes, it does suck something fierce. (smile)

Mr Luongo is not receiving a paycheck, the recapture penalty is a penalty against the cap.

Aquaman might as well sue NASA for faking the moon-landings.

(ZERO chance of winning)

"We're not going to pay the last two years" ?

Like I said, your Vancouver Canucks are not paying Mr Luongo

... they have had a penalty applied to their salary cap.

That $3,033,206 counts against the cap for 2 more seasons.

If they chose to ignore that $3,033,206... going over the cap

... they would be penalized with fines and forfeiting of draft picks.

Yeah, so at this moment in time you're an old man yelling at a cloud. (smile)

#NHL/#NHLPA MOU states that if players opting-out on a league-wide or club-wide basis "materially impacts the integrity" of the Return To Play plan, then the two sides may meet to determine whether to continue with the restart.

I like this one- An interview period is like asking a guy if he might re-sign. Even chat about how much.

Very interesting: Clubs that have a Performance Bonus overage from this year will have the option to evenly distribute it between 2020-21 and 2021-22 (50% each season).
