Welp, it took 6 years, but Benning has done what no Tank team has done - won a playoff series.

Edmonton, Toronto, buffalo, Calgary.

He's done what no V-shaped rebuild has done without any draft lottery luck.

He's matched the Avs' progression from tanking for Mackinnon.

Was it a perfect rebuild? Nope.

But it was fast, relative to where they started - bad, old, slow, and almost no prospects in the pipeline after a solid decade of poor drafting.

For whatever credit Gillis gets, they've now done what Gillis's teams failed to do from 2012-2014: win a playoff series.

You can draft good players, but part of building winning teams is making sure you develop them correctly so they do the things they have to do to win.

“I know I spent maybe a little more money (on veterans) to help those young players learn how to play the right way. But once they learn the right way to play and get this playoff experience, they’re going to do the right things. They’re always going to score a lot of points in this league. But there’s a difference between putting up a lot of points and not having success as a team, and putting up maybe not as many points but doing the right things to win.”

So maybe a few of us weren't wrong about the over-payments.....and maybe a few of us were right about the need for it.
