Welp, it took 6 years, but Benning has done what no Tank team has done - won a playoff series.
Edmonton, Toronto, buffalo, Calgary.
He's done what no V-shaped rebuild has done without any draft lottery luck.
He's matched the Avs' progression from tanking for Mackinnon.
Was it a perfect rebuild? Nope.
But it was fast, relative to where they started - bad, old, slow, and almost no prospects in the pipeline after a solid decade of poor drafting.
For whatever credit Gillis gets, they've now done what Gillis's teams failed to do from 2012-2014: win a playoff series.

Amen, ESQ.
Other GMs are now looking at the JB model as to how to rebuild quickly. It's true. Not making this up.
Disbelievers can choke down your crow with your whine.
Genius

Hmmm... one of these days someone is going to suggest Jimmy Benning is a genius.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 9:40 pm Amen, ESQ.

Doc, I believe the Genius Fan Club will be getting a major influx of Membership requests.

So maybe a few of us weren't wrong about the over-payments.....and maybe a few of us were right about the need for it.Jim Benning wrote: “They’re such good young players, but they want to win, right?” Benning said Friday of the Canucks’ young core headlined by Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat. “This is their first experience being in the playoffs, but at certain times we’ve seen them take over games. They do the right things for winning. That was my biggest fear as a manager. You can draft good players, but part of building winning teams is making sure you develop them correctly so they do the things they have to do to win.
“I know I spent maybe a little more money (on veterans) to help those young players learn how to play the right way. But once they learn the right way to play and get this playoff experience, they’re going to do the right things. They’re always going to score a lot of points in this league. But there’s a difference between putting up a lot of points and not having success as a team, and putting up maybe not as many points but doing the right things to win.”

Jimmy has insinuated a few times over the years that you have to overpay UFA mentors to get them to get on board with a rebuild.Mëds wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2020 2:18 pmSo maybe a few of us weren't wrong about the over-payments.....and maybe a few of us were right about the need for it.Jim Benning wrote: “They’re such good young players, but they want to win, right?” Benning said Friday of the Canucks’ young core headlined by Quinn Hughes, Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat. “This is their first experience being in the playoffs, but at certain times we’ve seen them take over games.
