The Canuck Acquisition Predictor

Post by Southern_Canuck »

The majority of Benning additions (NHL/AHL) since Willie Desjardins became coach are Willie's former players...

Derek Dorsett
Linden Vey
Dustin Jeffrey
Wacey Hamilton
Richard Bachman
Curtis Valk (AHL contract only)
Emerson Etem
Philip Larsen

So I think it should be easy to predict the next few Canuck additions by looking through Willie's Medicine Hat Tigers, Dallas Stars, and Texas Stars rosters. Don't be alarmed, there are actually quite a few decent players in there!

Sure, the Canucks are not likely to end up with Jamie Benn, John Klingberg, etc - but don't be surprised to see any of these other names in a Canuck jersey...

In Goal:
Willie's Texas Stars
Jack Campbell - 24 year old, 11th overall pick in 2010 NHL Draft. Currently bouncing between ECHL and NHL, but well regarded.

On Defense:
Willie's Medicine Hat Tigers
Cody Carlson - 24 - shoots right - ECHL (listed as 5'10"... could be our next Patrick Coulombe)
Kris Russell - 28 - shoots left - Calgary Flames - $2.6M through 2015-16
David Schlemko - 28 - shoots left - New Jersey Devils - $625k through 2015-16
Cam Barker - 29 - shoots left - KHL (please no)
Willie's Dallas Stars
Brenden Dillon - 25 - shoots left - San Jose Sharks - $3.27M through 2019-20
Matt Niskanen - 29 - shoots right - Washington Capitals - $5.75M through 2020-21
Willie's Texas Stars
John Klingberg - 23 - shoots right - Dallas Stars - $4.25M through 2021-22
Jamie Oleksiak - 23 - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $875k through 2015-16
Jyrki Jokipakka - 24 - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $900k through 2016-17
Patrik Nemeth - 24 - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $900k through 2016-17
Cameron Gaunce - 25 - shoots left - Florida Panthers - $575k through 2015-16 (in AHL, will Benning attempt to unite the Gaunces?)

For Forwards:
Willie's Medicine Hat Tigers
Tyler Ennis - 26 - Center - shoots left - Buffalo Sabres - $4.6M through 2018-19
Bretton Cameron - 27 - Right Wing - shoots right - ECHL (scored 40 for Willie!)
Darren Helm - 29 - Center - shoots left - Detroit Red Wings - $2.125M through 2015-16
Clarke MacArthur - 30 - Left Wing - shoots left - Ottawa Senators - $4.65M through 2019-20
Joffrey Lupul - 32 - Left Wing - shoots right - Toronto Maple leaves - $5.25M through 2017-18
Ryan Hollweg - 32 - Center - shoots left - Czech League (Prust replacement?)
Willie's Dallas Stars
Jamie Benn - 26 - Center - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $5.25M through 2016-17
James Neal - 28 - Left Wing - shoots left - Nashville Predators - $5M through 2017-18
Tom Wandell - 29 - Center - shoots left - KHL (bottom 6 possibility)
Loui Eriksson - 30 - Right Wing - shoots left - Boston Bruins - $4.25M through 2015-16
Willie's Texas Stars
Brandon Troock - 21 - Right Wing - shoots right - Dallas Stars - $637k through 2016-17
Radek Faksa - 22 - Center - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $863k through 2016-17
Matej Stransky - 22 - Right Wing - shoots right - Dallas Stars - $609k through 2015-16
Brett Ritchie - 22 - Right Wing - shoots right - Dallas Stars - $814k through 2015-16
Brendan Ranford - 23 - Left Wing - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $610k through 2015-16
Cody Eakin - 24 - Center - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $3.85M through 2019-20
Reilly Smith - 24 - Right Wing - shoots left - Florida Panthers - $3.425M through 2016-17
Matt Fraser - 25 - Right Wing - shoots left - Winnipeg Jets - $650k through 2015-16 (was Willie's Adam Cracknell)
Curtis McKenzie - 25 - Left Wing - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $675k through 2016-17
Alex Chiasson - 25 - Right Wing - shoots right - Ottawa Senators - $1.2M through 2015-16
Colton Sceviour - 26 - Right Wing - shoots right - Dallas Stars - $650k through 2015-16 (scored 32 for Willie)
Travis Morin - 32 - Center - shoots left - Dallas Stars - $575k through 2016-17 (also scored 32 for Willie)

Looking over the list, here are my predictions:

Trade Prediction:
Canucks will trade Mike Zalewski (or Cole Cassels) and a pick for Brett Ritchie

Summer 2016 Free Agent Prediction:
David Schlemko - signed to be a 7-8 defenceman
Cameron Gaunce - signed for the Utica Comets

I'm hoping for Loui Eriksson, Cam Barker and Jordie Benn, but then I've been accused of being too much of an optimist.

I would take a shot at Jordie, and then strongly suggest he whisper sweet nothings into his brother's ear leading up his UFA status in 2017. Maybe not sweet nothings.. maybe sweet "$11M per year with a guaranteed spot for Jordie at $1M per" as long as Jamie signs for.

The Benn Bros and the Sedin Bros leading the Canucks to a nice rebound season in 2017-18.

After the Chicago trade for Ladd, I am not as hopeful for a good return, or them even being dealt, for Hanhuis and Vrbata.

I predict Benning only pulls a minor deal at the TDL,like a 6th rounder for a minor league prospect. I predict we resign both Hammer and Verbatim between now and July 1st

Quite possible. Such a plan would really make Elmer an astrophysicist.

Now that Chicago acquired Willie's boy Matt Fraser in the Ladd deal - 33 goals for the AHL Stars in 2012-13 - I'm getting ready for the inevitable Hamhuis for Fraser deal.

As a more positive prediction, I could see a Hamhuis for Jyrki Jokipakka (Dallas) deal...

Jyrki Jokipakka
24 year old, Finnish, 6'3" 215 lbs, left shot defenceman

I would rather see one of Ritchie or Honka or their first rounder. Jokipakka is fine as a secondary piece.

Problem with Honka is he is 5-11 175lbs. If you are going that small for a D man draft Jake Bean instead

Problem with Ritche is his first name isn't Nick
