Shinkaruk to Flames for Granlund

It's official - may as well start a thread on this 'blockbuster'...

TRADE: ‪#‎Canucks‬ acquire Markus Granlund from Flames in exchange for Hunter Shinkaruk.

Granlund, 22, has split the 2015-16 season between the Calgary Flames (4-3-7 in 31 games) and the Stockton Heat (5-4-9 in 12 games). He has appeared in 86 NHL games, registering 28 points (14-14-28) and 24 penalty minutes. The Oulu, Finland native has also collected one assist in three career playoff games.

I am guessing Vey and Cracknell will be gone... McCann probably Utica bound next year...

Did they put Shrinkwrap in bubblewrap for secure packaging?

I guess, as some here who follow Utica have been saying, he wasn't coming along as well as expected.

Maybe a change of scenery will do both well, after all, the Flames had been doing wonders with Sven.

Granlund has to pass through waivers next year . He is small , soft and thin as well . I would have rather seen Shinkaruk in a package for a good young defenceman.

At first glance I don't like it one bit. Benning really doesn't like any of the old regime's draft picks with the exception of Bo, who played so well he couldn't get rid of.

I'm giving up hope on Benning. In a week we'll see what he's really made of.
In Okinawa, all Miyagi know two things: hockey and karate.

John Weisbrod was around the Flames with they drafted Granlund, insider trading yo!

18 points in rookie year in 48 games, NHL experience.

Shoring up the center spot.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

I really don't understand the purpose of this trade. Sure we get a guy with actual NHL experience, but we get 2 years older and not really better. Lateral move at best.

Maybe Benning has something lined up for Vrbata and sees Granlund as a ready replacement? Although Granlund is a centre.....nothing like adding to the logjam at that position eh.

Agreed this is a puzzling move. I don't really understand the rationale unless it's part of a string of deals. I mean why pick up another centre when were drafting Matthews this year? :mrgreen:
