1) a true number 1 D man, he mentioned along the lines of Keith, Chara, Doughtery
2) a true number 1 goalie, he mentioned Thomas, Lundquist, Quick
3) a big, strong number one centre, he mentioned Kopitar, Getzlaf
Hard to disagree with any of that.
Short of Demko, I don't think we have any of those pieces now, or in the pipleine. However, Bo Horvat could be that strong, two-way Centre in the Bergeron mould.
Oh come on IN. We have both Markstrom and Demko. We have Zdeno Tryamkin. We are 2/3 of the way there

You're willing to label Tryamkin as a #1 D already?

There are some suggestions that Austin Mathews may not actually be the best available for reasons that I'm sure everyone has heard.
The lottery is a crap shoot anyways.
If we draft in the top 5, Benning will get a really good piece.
Projected better draft this year than next.
So sick of the tanking, don't want to see hockey like this next year.

Or, while professing that he was trying to make the playoffs, Benning took a series of risks that might have improved the team if they had worked, but that he also knew had a large chance of resulting in a complete bottom-out if they failed. Thus the convertible stealth tank.

It would make sense that genius would be subtle.
It's possible, but is there much difference between the guy you describe and a moron?

Ohhhh right, its an accident that half the d-corp are rookies, 4 of the forwards are rookies, and more than half of the forwards have played fewer than 164 NHL games.

You're implying Benning was purposefully positioning us to be this bad?
Of course the roster will look this way when you shut down 3-4 guys once the playoffs are out of reach. I wish they'd shut the Sedins down too, we're going to have to ride them hard again next season.
