To put the Sbisa contract in perspective...
Who would you rather have Sbisa for 3 more years at $3.6 or Garrison for 3 more years at $4.6? I'll give everyone a second to check the stats.
I still don't think Sbisa is a top four D on many teams in the league, but I'll deffer to Benning on that one.

Country Club Mr Relaxation - Garrison who played with zero edge and had zero direction on his shots and skates like Murzyn vs the Pizza man who hits like a truck and plays with an edge and is a beast in front of his net? Hmmmm

I don't see Benning asking veterans like Hamhuis and Bieksa to waive. Maybe Burrows or Higgins, but those guys strike me as guys Benning and the coaches likes.Strangelove wrote:Yeah, the cap is likely somewhere between $71M-$73M next year.herb wrote: A quick calculation shows our cap payroll for next season is at $66.8M with 18 players signed.
This assumes the cap projection of $73M from December.
And you don't want to spend right to the cap if you can avoid it.
Stay $1M or so under?
So if Markstrom was the goalie shipped out... $5M-$7M on 6 players?
3 of those being dee from the pool of 4: Weber/Stanton/Corrado/Clendening
(all 4 have raises coming... one of the four needs to be cut loose as we have 9 total)
Baertschi + Vey (raises coming) can't be waived.
Kenins should stay (raise coming).
I don't think there's roster room or cap room for Matthias/Richardson (big raises coming)
... unless Miller + forward (Vey!) are traded for picks.
Here's hoping GMJB's plan is a good one.
Miller is the obvious candidate given the high cap hit and the emergence of Eddie (I like that nickname - simple and makes for a good Rogers Arena chant). Take $5M off the books (Miller's $6M less the back-up's $1M) and there's money to bring back Matthias and Weber
Benning almost has to bring back Weber. Him and Edler are the only real offensive threats on the back-end. That's going to cost at least $2M.
Move Miller and we can easily bring back Weber and Matthias, give a 50% raise to Kenins and Baertschi and have room to make moves throughout the season.
For fun:
Forwards
D Sedin $7,000,000
H Sedin $7,000,000

Hansen $2,500,000
Bonino $1,900,000
Kassian $1,750,000
Horvat $1,510,000
Matthias $3,500,000
Dorsett $2,650,000
Baertschi $1,249,500
Kenins $1,077,000
Gaunce $1,056,667
Defensemen
Edler $5,000,000
Bieksa $4,600,000
Hamhuis $4,500,000
Tanev $4,450,000
Sbisa $3,600,000
Weber $2,000,000

Re: Dorsett & Sbisa signed to multi-year contracts
Watching Weber blast away last night had me thinking of how fucking fussy Garrison was about the pass to set up the one timer that was more often than not, wide.RoyalDude wrote:Country Club Mr Relaxation - Garrison who played with zero edge and had zero direction on his shots and skates like Murzyn vs the Pizza man who hits like a truck and plays with an edge and is a beast in front of his net? He and Weber were brought in for their shot, Weber gets his off, Garrison, to often didn't.

Yeah, that guy. I know he's one of your favorites.RoyalDude wrote:Country Club Mr Relaxation - Garrison who played with zero edge and had zero direction on his shots and skates like Murzyn vs the Pizza man who hits like a truck and plays with an edge and is a beast in front of his net? Hmmmm
It's a good comparison to see what Benning wants in his D-core and what he does not want.
Topper's right about Weber too. It's painfully obvious what Garrison lacked when you compare him to either of those players. Point totals don't really make up for it.
