Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Adam Clendening from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Gustav Forsling.

Clendening, 22, has split the 2014.15 season with the Chicago Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs. He collected two points (1-1-2) in four games with Chicago and 13 points (1-12-13) in 38 games with Rockford. In 2013.14 he was named an AHL First Team All-Star and, in 2012.13, was named a second team AHL All-Star and Rockford’s Rookie of the Year.

Prior to his professional career, Clendening played for Boston University. In his final year with Boston, he shared the lead among Hockey East defensemen with a career high 33 points (4-29-33) in 38 games with the Terriers. He was also named a Hockey East First Team All-Star and was one of two sophomores selected to the All-New England Division I All Star-Team.

On the international stage, Clendening was a member of Team USA at the 2010 IIHF World U18 Championships. He led defencemen in scoring at the tournament with 10 points (3-7-10), was named to the tournament all star team and won a gold medal. The 6’0”, 190-pound defenceman also won gold at the 2009 IIHF World U18 Championships.

The Niagara Falls, New York native was originally selected by Chicago in the second round, 36th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Forsling was doing great! Anybody know anything about Clendening??

from hawk fan..
Clendening is a puck moving DMAN who has played well for a few seasons in Rockford, just can't crack the hawks score and with rundblad playing well bowman thinks he is expendable, he will fit in nicely in Vancouver...
Also seems he's a right side dman.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Could be a case of trading a young player in Forsling whose stock was high due to a good showing at the recent WJC's but the Canuck brass felt was a long shot to make the club?

Wow, I was impressed with Forsling. Gotta believe Benning knows Clendening from his Boston days and sees the upside. Not a big guy for defence but a RHS that has been able to produce points. Wonder if he goes right to Utica? Maybe gets a looks see with Bieksa hurt. More NHL ready that Forsling?

Watching that clip you would think we just got Orr! Described as a PP quarter back, maybe we see him this year.

Yeah wjc's got Forsling stock up, and Clendening got stuck behind a couple new hot shots in the A, so he lost his powerplay time.

Forsling can develop another 2-3 years, whereas Clenny can play pretty much starting tomorrow.

Hope AC plays with Hamhuis to cover up his lack of defensive awareness and gets some powerplay time.

Ya from all accounts Chicago made this trade because Clendening needs to clear waivers next year and they didn't see how they could fit him into the line up. The risk was they lose him on waivers next year for nothing. Also, they have depth at RHS defence but not so much for LHS. They swap out a RHS on d who is NHL ready for a LHS prospect who is at least two years away from his ELC, so they buy time and don't lose an asset.

Benning gets an NHL ready RHS for a distant prospect. He gets a guy that fills a need we have today but is still only 22.

He was true to his word. He is willing to trade a good prospect for a similarly good prospect who is further along in his development. Chicago has great depth and is not in the middle of a rebuild. We are rebuilding on the fly and Clendening fits that bill. Hope we do get to see him soon.

My sentiments exactly.

Clendening (22-yr-old, 36 overall 2011) has been developing nicely I hear.

He put up a ton of points in his first 2 AHL seasons, definitely close to bring his game to the NHL.

(Forsling (age 18, 126 overall last summer) is 5 years off... IF EVER.

I hear he's a dandy RS PPQB which is what the doctor has been ordering.

I'd say he just passed Superman Corrado on the depth chart

... and in walking into a beauty opportunity with Bieksa out on a decent NHL tea.

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Clendening
Sbisa/Stanton - Corrado/Weber

Later this year...

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Spizza - Clendening
Stanton - Corrado

Beyond this season...

Edler - Tanev
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Stanton - Clendening
*ABS - Corrado

*Anyone But Spizza

Remember when I scoffed at Benning's "Where not going to rush out and get a dee because Bieksa's out" :)

Cuz yeah, apparently he rushed right out and got one.

I like it, we needed the bigger, more NHL-ready player right now over Forsling.

But there go my Franson dreams, oh well...

Now that I think about it, cap-space in the possible $71 cap of this summer

... will be golden when all these teams are gonna hafta drop unload some really good players.

OMG... I was just thinking about Benning and... it... moved.

It looks like Benning is giving Clendening/Corrado a chance to prove they can handle the 3rd pairing + PP

... while Bieksa is out.

If both are looking awsome, can ship out Spizza + Weber NEXT SEASON.

(and bring in a better 3rd-pairing PHYSICAL LS dee)

THIS SEASON I'd sent one/two of Clendening/Corrado when Bieksa comes back.

Defensive depth for the playoffs.

I'm starting to think JB's next move is a hockey trade for a Top 6 winger.

Higgins + Lack + ??

Cup-bound Canucks?

Has it been confirmed that Clendening is reporting to Vancouver and not Utica?

Does it hurt, looks swollen.

For the first time since Pat Quinn I feel confidence at the general manager level.

A swap of need for need makes a lot of sense

Fuckin finally
