Upcoming home stand - predictions?

Post by Cornuck »

Tue Jan 27, 2015 Anaheim Ducks @ Vancouver Canucks
Fri Jan 30, 2015 Buffalo Sabres @ Vancouver Canucks
Sun Feb 1, 2015 Minnesota Wild @ Vancouver Canucks
Tue Feb 3, 2015 Winnipeg Jets @ Vancouver Canucks
Thu Feb 5, 2015 San Jose Sharks @ Vancouver Canucks
Sat Feb 7, 2015 Pittsburgh Penguins @ Vancouver Canucks

The good news is that we'll be rested for the Ducks. The bad news is that they'll be rested as well. After that we should have a decent shot at winning the others.

Will Coach Willie have any new lines going? Or any changes (other than adjusting for KB3's absence)?

vs:
Ducks - we lose
Sabres - win
Wild - win
Jets - OT loss
Sharks - win
Pens - lose

Corrado shines in Bieksa's absence.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

The Canucks are 23rd in the league on home ice. We really need to figure out how to win at home. We've picked up 23 points in Vancouver, Carolina and Buffalo both have 22 in their own barns. Only Arizona and Edmonton are worse in the Western Conference.

We won't be in a playoff spot much longer if we don't figure out how to make Rogers Arena harder to play in.

I am predicting 3-1-2. The only regulation loss coming at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets.

I couldn't agree with Island Nucklehead any more ... this team needs to get better at home. It starts with special teams, specifically the PP. Actually, home or road, the PP has been a momentum killer all year. It must get better so the bigger and tougher teams actually pay the price for getting out of line.

As for the 5 - on - 5 play...

WD tends to roll four lines for the most part but even more so on the road. Is it cooincidence that our road record is so much better than our home record? I think the twin's line, and Bonino's line's ice time could take a hit at home and it may benefit the team. It wouldn't hurt, especially because we don't want to see our guys played out for the stretch drive. (see 2014)

We'll go 500.

Ducks, Wild, Jets, and Sharks, will be OT or S/O losses.

We'll lose in regulation to he Sabers, because they are in free fall and we lose to those teams.

Our only win will come against the Penguins.

Similar to Skyo, I can see us book-ending this homestand with losses and winning the games in the middle.

Anaheim and Pittsburgh are both big-time teams in the league, they should be beating a middle-of-the-pack team like the Canucks.

We get Buffalo on their 3rd game in 4 nights, they play in Edmonton the night before, so that's quite a winnable game. Especially after all the Hype surrounding the McDavid bowl...

Minny gets a couple days off after their Albeta swing, maybe a case of the "Roxy Flu"? It is an afternoon game so who the fuck knows which teams show up.

The Jets, Sharks and Penguins we all get on back to backs, after what are likely to be physical games in Calgary.

Basically, a very winnable portion of the schedule, with only Anaheim coming in well-rested. Buffalo, Winnipeg, San Jose and Pittsburgh will all be coming in on the tail end of back to backs. I don't expect to win ALL those games, but there's no reason the Canucks shouldn't win 3 out of those 4.

The Games against Winnipeg (5 points up on us if we're looking at Wild Card positioning), San Jose (battling for divisional position), and Wild (keep them in the basement) are easily the most important, but you never want to give away points to teams like the Sabres, and the team needs to be able to get up for games against Anaheim (Hi Ryan, ya fuck), and Pittsburgh (Sid and co.).

Should be a good stretch. 4-1-1.

Well at least most knew we'd lose to the powerhouse Ducks.

WD needs to learn to shuffle his lines a bit, he keeps em together waaaay too much, switch up the 2nd line, put Kassian on 2nd unit powerplay ffs.

Trade Higgins to a contender, he'd fit in with the Blues swap Higgy + for Berglund (hftrade some blues fans didnt mind)
or
Higgins to Bruins, apparently JB is still interested in their depth dman Bartkowski he could easily be an upgrade over Weber. If this happens we could call up Jensen to hopefully be a burst of an offensive spark plug like he was for 10 games in his 18 game stint last season.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
