Re: Bieksa Out Long Term
That sucks for Bieksa, and it's going to hurt the Canucks. We just got a helluva lot weaker (physically speaking).
Can we afford to deal Sbisa and/or Kassian now? How much deterrence will Dorsett be on his own? Can Sestito play defence!?!
Bieksa hasn't been having a great season, but I do worry about giving more minutes to guys like Stanton and Sbisa. Corrado could be the big beneficiary here.

Re: Bieksa Out Long Term
Not really. It allows us to go over the cap by Bieksa's salary if we're right up against it. Since we're somewhere around $2M under the cap, we'd only' be allowed to over the cap by about $2.6M as of right now. If we added someone to fill that $2M gap, THEN we could go over by Bieksa's full amount ($4.6M).rats19 wrote:Ltir...reduces cap no?Strangelove wrote:Nah, gotta buy a Top 4 dee now!

Hedman breaks a finger on a Canucks shot in October
Bieksa breaks his hand on a Hedman shot now
What's with Bieksa and these ironic injuries (twice having leg lacerations)?
Not as bad as what happened to poor injury prone Pavol Demitra though...

Re: Bieksa Out Long Term
That stinks. It is hard to find a guy who gets paid over 4 million a year to stand still while forwards skate around him, often be out of position, and make lazy stick checks that end up being penalties instead of using his body. That said, he is very funny in his interviews, so that will be missed. He is such a card, so witty, definitely worth the money.

OUCH BC, tell us how you really feel!!
C'mon, buds, he "uses his body"!
He's the most physical dee we have gosh diddly darn it!!
He's still a legit Top 4 defenseman and this injury is gonna hurt US more than it does him.
I like KB3, he's an asshole.
That said, a HUGE opportunity for Mr Corrado to show he's the real deal.

Re: Bieksa Out Long Term
He will hit and fight, not saying he won't, but in terms of his job, to play defense, he has become far too comfortable sticking checking rather than using his body to take out the man (I don't mean crunching someone into the boards, but angling someone out, pushing players away from the front of the net etc). He does not take the extra stride to make a play but instead throws hope passes, flip passes, or just loses the puck, too often. And in honor of Howie Meeker, far too many forwards go around him now "like a hoop around a barrel."Strangelove wrote:OUCH BC, tell us how you really feel!!

Maybe he's been struggling with a lower body injury. If so, then the 6 weeks will let that heal too. My hunch though, is that after a good run of a career, he's done as a reliable top 4 guy. The combo of Bieka-Sbisa, not good, of Bieksa-Stanton, not good...hmm, what's the common denominator? He does not make his partner's better. He had his time as a top guy, but he's living off his rep., and let's be honest, the media loves him, so he gets a pass, although less so lately.
I don't really want to see him hurt of course and yes we lose experience, but his injury is not evenin the ballpark of impact compared to Hamhuis. Apparently, the similar sounding Biega is playing will in Utica, so maybe give him a twirl. We're transitioning to youth anyway, and so this is a good opportunity to get maybe one more of those guys in.

Re: Bieksa Out Long Term
Given his season to date, this may be a good thing for Bieksa. Wash this one down and hopefully get ready for the playoffs. Yeah he added some snarl to the blueline, but that was it. Time for him to take a look in the mirror and realize he's a shadow of his former self.
Guess Corrado isn't going to Utica any time soon. If Willie D has the crush Botch says he has, we'll be seeing more of him - for better or worse.
Corn, keep dreaming about Benning being a seller at the deadline. The team still has it within them to make the playoffs and so long as they do, Benning likely will not hold an estate auction before the season is over. It's all about the playoff revenue.
If anything, this may distract Benning from his pursuit of a top-6 forward.

Higgy + 2nd, Hawks desperately need to shed salary asap!
Plus I can't see any team deal a top 4 dman right now anyways, don't think we have the ammunition to trade for a Yandle, Myers type.
Phaneuf/Franson yes, but I'm not too excited for those two, especially at their cap hit, Franson allegedly wants $5M per.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

NOW HOLD IT RIGHT THERE!!!
Yeah we all know about barrel-chested Kasual Kev.
But there are his alter egos Klutch Kev, Killer Kev, and Kaptain-of-the-dee Kev!
Pretty reliable sources on that rumour....Boston Canucker wrote: Maybe he's been struggling with a lower body injury. If so, then the 6 weeks will let that heal too.

I said in the game thread the other day that Bieksa needs to play with Hamhuis.Boston Canucker wrote: The combo of Bieka-Sbisa, not good, of Bieksa-Stanton, not good...hmm, what's the common denominator?
Yes, he needs a babysitter, but WE still need HIM.

He's no spring chicken, but you couldn't ask for a better warrior and role model for the franchise. He's got that "Canadian heart and grit" that the Sedins don't have, and he's got the character and plays an honest game. Good thing he has only 1 year left on his deal. Then we can re-sign him for a more reasonable deal ($3Mish per) to be that 4-6 guy and be a good "elder statesman" for the young guys coming upLancer wrote:Given his season to date, this may be a good thing for Bieksa. Would really like Corrado prove he belongs in the NHL. That would make selling Sbisa at the deadline that much easier.Guess Corrado isn't going to Utica any time soon. If Willie D has the crush Botch says he has, we'll be seeing more of him - for better or worse.
