I'm a just drop this gold right here.

Yakupov: this is first time I've played on really, really good team.
I think it's awesome, I don't know what winning is.

via Tom Timmermann
and they signed bad corsi guy Russell one year.

Considering the amount of years, Vancouver and Edmonton really don't have much of a trade history.
As a matter of fact, they don't have the playoff history one would think either.
Doesn't mean anything, just a fluke of statistics..

Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Hard to imagine a better cautionary tale for those who think going into a tank will fix your franchise.

Three straight years of being the worst team in hockey, and today all they have to show for it is Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Larsson.

And after 6 seasons, they're back at square one.

This is why I don't understand when people criticize the retool on the fly, as though its the stupidest idea for how to bring new talent into the lineup. Even if you accept all the faults of the Benning method, it can't possibly be stupider than deliberately aiming for 1st overall and winding up like the Oilers.

I think the Oilers are doing just fine these days. Not only is there luck involved in the draft lottery, but also in the draft year. The Oilers were terrible for some really putrid drafts, which meant they stayed terrible, until the good drafts came along.

I assume it's safe to put the "retool on the fly" to bed, chalk it up as a loss, and call this what it now clearly is? A full rebuild. There was nothing "on the fly" about our last couple seasons.

Looking ahead, I do think we're 1-2 good drafts away from starting the climb out of the basement. I could see us timing our rise nicely with a California decline. We're still going to be the worst Western Canadian team for some time, though.
