Jersey Ads = done deal
Just when it appears the NHL has monetized every square inch possible...the greed wheel continues to churn out new possibilities. The boards are one thing....the steps leading up to the concessions are another....but this?!? Jerseys were always sacrosanct, part of the league's rich history. This is a new low, even for Bettman.

Agree with CR. I don't want to see garbage all over the jerseys.
Want to save money NHL teams?...stop offering ridiculous contracts to scrubs like David Clarkson every summer.

Re: Jersey Ads = done deal
Every jersey I've seen recently already has an ad for Reebok on it.
Every time I look out my window, same three dogs looking back at me.

Swiss League. It's greed, pure and simple. I hope the fans protest this disgusting move or the commentators...Speak up Don!ClamRussel wrote:Just when it appears the NHL has monetized every square inch possible...the greed wheel continues to churn out new possibilities. I will never buy a commercialized patched jersey and if it's a present i'll burn it down.
It would be interesting to see how they react if nobody buys this shit indeed.

Question that maybe Per will answer.....
If you want to buy a Modo jersey, do you end up with all the same current season sponsors plastered on it?
If the answer is yes, will the sponsorship be enough to offset the drop in jersey sales if the NHL does the same thing.
Fans in North America will hate this so much, and the whole point of having a jersey is identifying one's self with the team, so if the jerseys don't have the ads, they'll look better, but could never be considered official replicas. Blah blah blah....
Bottom line is that this will seriously hammer jersey sales for the NHL.

I guess this day had to come. I'm still recovering from them putting ads on the boards.

Pretty sure you would still buy one with a Depends and Viagra logo on it...Mëds wrote:Question that maybe Per will answer.....

I started watching in the late 80's.....so I grew up with that shit. It was the ads on the ice that I'm still rectifying.

Equipment has always been branded...like everything in this world. I do remember Fuhr being banned from wearing his Pepsi pads...and players who used gear that wasn't NHL-licensed had to black out the logos. Apparently there's been a bit of a paradigm shift...BurningBeard wrote:Every jersey I've seen recently already has an ad for Reebok on it.

Equipment is just that, branded. The manufacturer sticks their own name on it. Not really the same thing as putting a McDonalds logo on a jersey that McDonalds has nothing to do with other than paying to put their name there.ClamRussel wrote:Equipment has always been branded...like everything in this world. I always thought the ads on European uniforms looked bush and it seems to separate the good leagues from the great (NHL). Bettman is a schmuck.

Yep, that was my point.
Well since the NHL borders on bush from time to time perhaps it's fitting. No wonder they rank lower than darts & poker in the US.damonberryman wrote:I always thought the ads on European uniforms looked bush and it seems to separate the good leagues from the great (NHL). Bettman is a schmuck.
