OOTS balance of pre season 2014

Post by Hockey Widow »

Wonder if Detroit needs a goalie?

Making the leaves look good. Too bad the wings weren't still in the west.
The only HW the Canucks need

The leaves are good. Easily more talent than Detroit.

Detroit is not the power-house they once were.

They only have 3 or 4 forwards who are worth talking about.

They don't have a great blueline anymore.

Goaltending has not been the strong point of the Red Wings since Hasek retired/got injured/whatever the hell it was.

Like Holland predicted as soon as their Norris trophy dman Lidstrom retired, that would be it for the once mighty wings.

Show's how key having a top dman is imo, Doughty, Keith, Chara, all three of those teams are always considered Cup contenders...pretty sure JB knows this.

imo JB is just biding his time, letting this new roster work out how it's going to work out, waiting for a opportunity to nab a top tier dman.

Side note *Alexander Edler has the potential still!
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Edler has no potential, that ship sailed a while ago.

He's only 28..when healthy he can be beast mode, Edler is at his best when paired with a smart right side high octane dman.

I don't hate the guy.

I think he would be a REALLY good partner for Shea Weber.

Or an elite anchor on the 2nd pairing.

What I hate is that the Canucks, and many fans, are all high on the guy based on one season and playoffs, when before and after that season, he was pretty much what we've seen all along.

Edler is like Seabrook IMHO, he needs that Keith to make that combo deadleh.

Yandle or some high scoring Rightside dman should help in that regard.

Him and Ehrhoff were really good together. Should never have let him go.

Haters are gonna hate, If Edler won the Norris trophy, Mëds would still hate him

Put me in the 'like' department regarding Edler.
“Tyler Myers is my guy... I was taking to Scotty Bowman last night and he was bringing up his name, and saying he’s a big guy and big guy need big minutes to play, he is playing great for ya… and I agree with him… He’s been exceptional” - Bruce Boudreau

Looking forward to a bounce-back year from Edler. We all know the disaster he was last season.

2012-13, he was putting up numbers consistent with (or better than) guys like Doughty, Seabrook, Chara etc.

2011-12 he was tied with Weber with 49 points (Tied top-5 in points).

Both these seasons happened without Ehrhoff. So he's fully capable of playing and producing at a high level without ze German. He's certainly not "too old" to get his game back.
