Marner and Matthews will get matching deals or you can bet it’s gonna be The Nylander Saga 2.0 for Toronto in 2019.
Wingers always make less.
Tavaaes is irrelevant. He was UFA.

True.

Rumour is Marner will demand what Matthews gets.

Strong rumours (from the best in the biz) that Matthews will get ~ $14M/8 yrs, $13M/7 yrs, $12M/6 yrs, or $11M/5 yrs.

I guess Tuna figures they're gonna let Matthews (and Marner) become UFAs in just 5 years!

(same time as Nylander)

But yeahno, they'll likely go the $12M/6 yrs route, so tunes should add another $1M for AM plus $3M more for MM.

(so add $4M)

Also, Loony Tunes magically dumped Marleau and Zaisev and their horrific contracts! :wow:

(close to another $11M there)

Those two, Brown, and others (like Hainsey) are then replaced by dirt-cheap AHLers who will magically become NHLers next season:

Moore, Marchment, Bracco, Engvall, 18-yr-old Sandin, 19-yr-old Liljegren, and the proven-horrible Sparks, Holl, and Gauthier.

Almost half of his proposed Leaves lineup would be a rogues' gallery of mediocre AHLers! Image

You get what you pay for.

The big fish has clearly been snorting pixie dust and now he can sniff my bum dust…

Nylander: 5 points in 4 games.

Someone jumped the gun a little early on him.

Great contract. He'll be a 1st line winger for years to come.

And I'm confused, isn't Matthews playing in Arizona next season? Where's the offersheet? The guys who guaranteed Matthews will go to Arizona this summer is now telling me him signing 5 or 6 years is terrible? It was a lock? Isn't Marner a bust?

And BTW, sounds like a decent chance Zaitsev doesn't even finsih the season in Toronto.

Elliotte:
Hearing TOR and Matthews closing the extension. Will be five years, between $11.5-11.7 AAV
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Ah shucks.

Not a genius though, just follow the ideas of guys like Bobby Mac, know the pressure in TO, and I'm generally lucky with predictions.

But thanks!

What probably freaks out Tunarelli is things like when I predicted 2 years ago that Matthews would get $14M on an 8-year deal.

That was unheard of at the time and he laughed his ass off.

I kept repeating dat dere, maybe a half-dozen times and now today:

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31- ... anger-nhl/
Maybe Toronto should have snared Matthews before the season at $12 million/year. Matthews was willing to go the maximum term, and the Maple leaves certainly didn’t object, but when he busted out to that huge start, the number got too high — probably close to $14 million. (on an 8 year deal)
That was Friedman, and now more from today:

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/how-does-m ... ue~1604190

Bob McKenzie, 1:00 mark: “Leaves would have to have paid Matthews $14M on an 8 year deal.”

Darren Dreger, 3:39 mark: “Same contract as Matthews gets it done for Marner.”

But yeah, most of this is luck + spending waaaay to much time following trends/thoughts of others.

Anyhoo, as I've said, Leaves are going to have to dump some contracts this summer, or sooner, that's an easy prediction...

Not sure anyone said it was a "guarantee" LOL

Arizona is happier now than ever!

Only have to wait 5 short years and won't have to give up those 4 first rounders...

That was the problem with the Weber offer sheet - it was such long term that it wound up guaranteeing that Philly would never get him.

Now, Arizona just waits for Matthews to pull a Tavares!

Matthews and Marner are 19. Superstar 1-2 punch for years to come. You guys would flip if you had those 2.
These days I honestly cheer for Matthews and Marner to put up huge points.

Why?

... mostly because if they keep this pace up they will get $14M each in 2.5 years.(on 8 year contracts of course)
Just checked out the internet on this one, people are LOLing at Dumbass.

Even tough to find any Leaves fans defending him on this!

Dumbass has snookered himself...

It looks like Marner's negotiations will be Nylander 2.0. They low-balled him once, and already they're trying to low-ball him again. Next Fall will be interesting...
