This business about Kass is really about how immature he is.

It's hard to say how big of an issue his maturity level is or isn't. His Tom Sestito-esque comments to the media don't look all that good, but we don't know what's really going on.

I really think Kassian's struggles this season have a whole lot to do with him just not playing very well. He has been poor defensively, had a lot of brutal giveaways, made bad decisions and totally failed to put up offensively even though he apparently "uses his body well" and "has great hands". He doesn't kill penalties, so if he isn't making the most of his 5v5 playing time, he is of no use.

Other young players like Horvat and Kenins have made the most of their opportunities so far this season and forced the coaching staff to keep them in the lineup. Kassian simply has not. He has easily been one of our worst forwards.

The amount of vitriol and arguments over a guy who hasn't been good, and is a bottom six forward at best, is amusing to say the least.

HW, how has Kassian been given any less of an opportunity than Horvat, Kenins, Matthias, Dorsett, Hansen and even Kenins? His TOI/G is about the same as Matthias'. Who has had a really good season and who has been a disaster? He averages a minute more per game than Dorsett. Which guy has been playing hard, playing with energy, hitting everything in sight, fighting, sticking up for his teammates and scoring game winning goals, and which guy has not?

Kassian has absolutely perfect mentors on the team in Dorsett, Matthias and Hansen, yet he still cannot figure out what he needs to do to be a NHL forward? Good grief.

A guy like Jannik Hansen has seen his ice time plummet from last season. I believe he was even scratched earlier this season. Have we heard a peep from him? No, he has just played hard. He's played the way he needs to play to be an effective NHL forward. He has been professional and worked his ass off.

Zack doesn't have to look very far, he just needs to open his eyes.

Zack IMO will play for a lot of teams the way Steve Downie has. A couple of morons cut from the same cloth. You'll get flashes of the way we all hope he can play and you'll get flashes of sleepy braindeadness.

One things for certain, he drives his coaches nuts and he's consistent at being inconsistent
