Re: Canucks second line - 2014-2015?
Don't want to see Sestito and Dorsett dress at the same time. Sestito waived or carry him as a spare. Without any additional moves we don't have room for the kids. I can see Horvat being sent back, unless he über impresses at camp. The additions so far buy us time to let him keep developing.
No problem with the other kids battling it out for 1-2 spots or going to Utica to get some pro games in. No expectations for this team this season anyway. I'll be satisfied if they have a high compete level, play entertaining hockey, don't get out worked and the vets have a bounce back season, oh and we make the playoffs.
But since it appears the plan is to add during FA and or trades to take advantage of teams in cap trouble it is easy to see we still have to clean house a bit. I don't mind keeping Hansen. His cap hit for what he brings is decent but he has 4 more years. Cutting ties with him now would be more for the future when he would be more difficult to move. Higgins is on his last year so he is perfect to keep and then let walk. He is the type of player you trade at the tdl to a contender wanting depth for a late round pick. Same with Richardson. They buy us one year of development time.
I don't know if Burrows will waive, all has gone quiet on that front.
So to me you lose Hansen and Sestito, maybe Matthias too. Sestito you waive and if he clears he can play tough for Utica, if he gets claimed no loss.
When you look at the log jam on the bottom six, then add in the Canucks alleged interest in bringing Glass back, well the math just does not work.
Honestly do you see any of the high end FA wanting to come here while we are in a rebuild? I don't. Maybe in 2-3 years but not this year.
Interesting times.

Sestito is staying put on the 4th line, I think you'll just have to accept the reality that he's a decent 4th liner to which he is, he's not a knuckledragger goon, 50% of canucks fans lol at that but idgaf, love his relentless hits and energy, a slower Torres if you will.Hockey Widow wrote:Don't want to see Sestito and Dorsett dress at the same time. Matthias was our only player playing with any type of passion late last season, and a lot of times our best player *gasp*, he fits the mold of younger/bigger that JB/TL want...all that equals Hansen getting shipped out.
We could also see Hansen or Burrows traded for a higher priced player.Hockey Widow wrote:Without any additional moves we don't have room for the kids. I can see Horvat being sent back, unless he über impresses at camp. The additions so far buy us time to let him keep developing.

Higgins/Richardson are perfect depth players for any team, from pretender to contender, cheap, versatile, play well, good teammates, they should stay for the long haul.Hockey Widow wrote:Higgins is on his last year so he is perfect to keep and then let walk. I mean how hard was it to finally find a perfect 4th line center???? took us like a decade or something like that lol.
While it looks to be a rebuild, it's not a full onslaught of shipping every skilled vet out of here situation, a couple key free agent signings could very make us a darkhorse team in a quick year or two.Hockey Widow wrote:Honestly do you see any of the high end FA wanting to come here while we are in a rebuild? It's true we have a younger team now, finally, but we still do have the Sedins, Bonino right behind em, a solid top 4 defense of Edler-Tanev, Hamhuis-Bieksa.
Got our young guys ready to breakout in Kassian, Jensen, some good depth in Matthias, Higgins, Richardson, Vey.
A free agent could look at the situation and see how many minutes they can get and think with their skill set they can help bring this team back asap, especially with a whole fresh regime in place with management/coaching.
Agreed, especially on the trade front! I'm still getting accustomed to a straight shooter management team that actually makes trades and isn't afraid to make em.Hockey Widow wrote:Interesting times.

Some good points made , and some not so good ones. All I can say is that for the first time in a long time, I have complete confidence in Canucks management and direction. It will be interesting to see if Desjardins completes that trifacta of confidence for me once the season is in play.
more cap space!
Re: Canucks second line - 2014-2015?
Other than Bonino, we are probably far from knowing who will be on our 2nd line right now. After July 1st, we should have a good idea though. Still like the idea of Vanek for our first line, but doubt he would come here.

Uh, fish ain't potatoes, and it's not typically considered meat. But as for his style, I don't like a 1-2 combo of Sedin/Stastny ...... two average skaters occupying close to 40 minutes per game at centre. I thought the Willie D. style was one of pace and speed. If they do sign a Stastny, I think both Sedins' would be given the Garrison treatment and I don't think Linden and Co. will or should go down that route.ClamRussel wrote:The other possibility is landing a big fish like Stastny (not like we don't have the cap space) and Bonino plays wing (like he often did in Ana).

For the record, I think you did make some good points (especially about Canucks trying to make the playoffs)
Disagree though about dumping Matthias.
Hanson can go (and it seems likely he WILL go) (to the Jets?).
Carry on dear lady...

I would love this signing and I don't think the Sedins will be the internal cap anymore. You have to think with mgmt wanting to bring in Miller and Iginla that they are aiming for playoffs here.ClamRussel wrote:The other possibility is landing a big fish like Stastny (not like we don't have the cap space) and Bonino plays wing (like he often did in Ana).

I could care less about Matthias. Not enough edge or not enough skill. I hope he goes. I could see all of this group - Matthias, Richardson. Hansen, Higgins, Burrows and Sestito gone somewhere between this summer and the end of next season. Just don't see them as being apart of Benning and Lindens plan here. I smell a complete overhaul of this team to find a right mix for Desjardins to succeed. Gotta miss one more playoffs as the 2015 class looks crazy good. A top 10 pick would do this team good.
Bonino Kassian Jensen our 2nd line but lets see what July 1st brings us

Kassian should be, and deserves to be on line #2. not a doubt about that. I would also give him pp time. Tortorella had some kind of hate on for the kassinator

Burrows-Bonino-Kassian................you won't enjoy playing against us
Higgins-Vey-Hansen....................who knows how we'll do on any given night
Matthias-Richardson-Dorsett...........a 4th line that can actually play
Sestito
Missing anyone? Horvat most likely goes back to junior. Shinkaruk starts on the farm. Still think Hansen might get dealt before too long, especially if one of the kids comes into camp and refuses to be sent home.

Now that, I like. I think depending on how the season goes, the kids get cycled in from the farm .
