Either way you need to punt those three and Spooner.
Let Granlund walk. Retain on Louis or bully him into retirement. Retain on Sutter. Spooner can play out the string in the minors . It’s time to change the culture here once sand for all

By the time Pettersson and Hughes are up for their raises:
Edler (7), Tanev (4.45), Pearson (3.75) and Baertschi (3.6) are off the books (18.8 Mil) and room is made for Benning's next waive of picks to take over.

Maybe not negative value for Granlund.
Perhaps extremely little value.

Spooner isn't a problem.
There's a good chance he rebounds after his horrific season.
Wouldn't be a bad guy to have around as depth (13th forward or in Utica if he clears).
He plays all 3 forward positions.
If there's something I don't know about going on, well you can simply buy him out.
Canucks share of the buyout would be just $1M on the cap (Rangers pay 23% of total).
Why do you hate him? He just has next season on his contract.
I’m not a fan of Spooner. I don’t hate on him but he seems pretty listless and kinda soft. I’d just like to see more speed and tenacity especially up front.

I'd keep Granlund as the #12 forward, no biggie if he's gone but...
He leads the team in penalty kill TOI for all Canucks forwards, and the team is ranked #11th in the league currently in PK% @ 80.9%, that along with chipping in 10 goals, 20 points while avg 15:10 TOI all season.
He gets paid a paltry amount on top of that, that is why I believe he shouldn't get the amount of scrutiny from blob to ms to all the rest, I rest my case.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

So in a nutshell who would you rather have: Alzner at $4.625M or Eriksson at $6M, and ya can't say neither aha.
Eriksson had a decent year I guess, but we have a lot of forwards of his caliber/type, basically bottom 6 guy/checker. It'd be nice to open up a roster spot for a young guy like Zack Attack McEwen. If we can save $1.5M in cap space and get a veteran D-man like Alzner to help out, might not be a bad idea. There's always a guy or 2 injured on our D core, so we need guys who can step in. It doesn't get much worse than having the Poo Bear to be the 6th-7th D-man, surely Alzner would be a way better option there.
Benning has to clear out some of the consistent “injury prone” . The injuries have been killing us. Benning keeps bringing up the injuries. If all 4 of Sutter, Baertschi, Tanev and Edler are back then Benning, my friend, it will be hard to defend you. If all 4 are back you are a gluten for punishmnent, don’t bring up the injuries next year if they are back. I actually have no issues with Eriksson. At least he isn’t brittle

Spooner is an upgrade over Granlund and he has played good hockey in the past. I'd jettison Sven along with Loui, Granlund and Sutter. Everyone wants to get rid of Schaler, I say keep him and let him play the roll he is destined to. He should never have played with Bo. He sat a lot due to the organization's hard on for Goldobin. Oh yeah, fire Goldobin too. Speaking of changing the culture. One floater is plenty.

Dude did his math. Looks good to me!
But but but... Reefer says there's a big cap crunch coming next season!
How did this Vic guy manage to give Edler/Leivo huge raises and add a $10M UFA and another $10M UFA
... and still somehow remain $10M under the cap!??
Ahhhh Reef....
I'd say Edler gets at least 1M less than what Vic proposes and Leivo gets half that $3.5M
... so there's a few Million more!
And hey Vic, where's Hutton? Traded for a 2nd?
Hey I know you like to be the King of CC but YOU do realize he offloaded the boat anchors I was talking about to make this work?
Fine keep Eriksson and Sutter...team is still 3 mil below the cap.
Yes, trade Hutton. Brisbois, Saunter, Woo, Juolevi, are cheaper and can become Hutton.
Edler is probably looking at 5 x 3 ... I thought 7 per would be enough to convince him to sign 2 years and then 1 year contracts after that..Seattle protection.
I also forgot Rousell, but he can fit in there too.

For dime a dozen type players like Spooner, cost is key...
For all of the free Goldy chants, where are the free Boucher chants?
Goldy and Boucher have almost identical NHL stats and about half of what Spooner has accomplished in just over twice as many games...
So, I'd look to move Spooner or send him to Utica and then if I'm keeping one of Goldy or Boucher who are both RFA's this summer I'd lean towards Boucher because of his shot....
For all of his warts, Goldy doesn't have an NHL shot and Boucher has a better than average NHL shot....
Neither Goldy or Boucher will sign for anything close to what Spooner is being paid for the next 2 years which puts more $$ into the cap space piggy bank....
