Re: Prospects Thread 2014-15
Apparently Virtanen, Subban and Lukas Jasek have been impressive. Reportedly, Jasek can flat out fly, is crafty and made some guys look silly defensively.
Virtanen got injured though? Hit in the face or something?
Boeser has a heavy shot. Are we noticing a trend yet?
According to Tyson Giuriato, Stewart has put on a ton of muscle and looks comfortable at forward.

2015 6th round pick. 17 y/o Czech kid.
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=213164A highly intelligent winger that has the ability to produce strong numbers due to his intense style of play. Tenacity and athleticism are well-represented by his slashing style of skating, cutting hard to the net and being able to hold onto the puck for that extra second. Creativity and offensive instincts are coveted assets that Jasek possesses; he exhibits exceptional vision and a sharp, accurate shot. He will need to get stronger to be able to adapt to the harsher physical conditions of the North American game. All-in-all, a speedy offensive predator that looks to impact all aspects of the game, creating energy in waves. (Curtis Joe, EP 2015)

I see he was drafted by the KHL last year. Any indication of where the Canucks want him to play next year?

Re: Prospects Thread 2014-15
He will go into the chl draft next year. He only made into this draft by a couple of weeks, so he is real young.

They haven't released the times yet as far as I can see.
The air quality just happened to improve drastically yesterday.
I wonder if they would've gone ahead with it otherwise.

Interested to see how Gaunce and Shinkaruk do. Given they played in the AHL last year, they should be dominating this thing.

Subban and Shinkaruk should be skating circles around the tourny's lesser-lights.
Curious to see if Gaunce has worked on his skating this summer, probably the biggest thing holding him back from eventual NHL employment.
Jensen certainly not expected to make the big club... but not invited to prospects camp.
Will Whistle earn a pro contract?

Re: Prospects Thread 2014-15
The way I see it, our top 9 forward pool is pretty good, with the potential lineup in 5-6 years being:
Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen
Shinkaurik - McCann - Boeser
Gaunce - Cassels - Grenier
We don`t seem to have a high-quality skill player (Ehlers, for example) and I`m not sure Baertschi/Shinky are that high-end skill winger. Trading for one probably won`t work and I`m not sure we get a high enough pick to get one since we want to remain "competitive." Not to mention our need for at least one high-end D prospect. Our defense is our biggest concern still.

Yeah, all of those guys aren't going to make it . You may as well add in Willie's nephew Linden Vey, Dane Fox, Nicolas Jensen, Ludwig Blomstrand and Ronald's Kenins . Out of those fourteen guys you will be lucky to get five top nine forwards.Horvat1C wrote:The way I see it, our top 9 forward pool is pretty good, with the potential lineup in 5-6 years being:

Horvat is a lock . Who will the other guys be ?

Re: Prospects Thread 2014-15
My guess is six or seven, and I would see five as disappointing rather than lucky. Along with Horvat, I see Virtanen as a near-lock to be a serviceable third liner at minimum. With his package of speed, size, shot, and asshole factor, he'd have to have one hell of a rusty tool-box to fail despite all the tools. Along with those two, I think Baertschi, McCann, Boeser, Gaunce, and Cassels all have to be seen as better than 50/50 shots. Add in the chance of a surprise (and Shink isn't far from the 50/50 mark by my eye), and I can't see five as being a "lucky" result.Blob Mckenzie wrote:Out of those fourteen guys you will be lucky to get five top nine forwards.

Regardless, five top nine forward spots is pretty damn good for a crew spanning only five drafts. However pessimistic we choose to be, it's still a deep pool. Any more than five would be an exceptionally deep group for that time-frame.
Now, if only the same could be said about the back-end...
