Mon May 12

WHL Playoffs

Edmonton 4 Portland 2
Cederholm 0 points, even

Cederholm's season ends with Portland losing Game 7.

There is still one Canucks prospect playing - Bo Horvat - the Memorial Cup begins May 16. London struggled in the playoffs with significant injuries to the defense and a suspension to their #1 goalie - but you never know...

An article on the London Knights coming into the Memorial Cup...

Third Time Charm for Knights?

excerpt:
Bo Horvat already has his own frozen-in-time major junior hockey moment.
He scored the buzzer-beating, third-period goal to win Game 7 of the OHL final against the Barrie Colts last spring at Budweiser Gardens. He’ll be telling his grandkids about it some day. That’s got to be the ultimate feeling, right?
Well, not quite. The London Knights forward has a final chapter to write before he joins the Vancouver Canucks. His eyes are fixed on the Canadian Hockey League’s top prize.
“Any player who goes to three Memorial Cups and to not win one, it’s not the greatest [legacy],” the 19-year-old from Rodney, Ont., said, “and it would stick in the back of my mind the rest of my life. You want to win at least one.”

It looks like they will have their #1 goalie Stolarz back after suspension, but veteran junior defenceman Zach Bell is still out due to recovery from his broken leg...

This article says Bell has now been cleared to play. Hopefully, for London's sake.

Fri May 16

Memorial Cup

Val-d'Or 1 London 0
Horvat 0 points, even

Well, that's a drag... Toronto prospect Antoine Bibeau made 51 saves to shutout London, including a 3rd period stop on a Bo Horvat penalty shot.

Koltsov finished the season as the top scoring Dman in the KHL, also #1 in assists. Doubt that means much (not sure what the calibre of play is over there) but its something.

He also hit double digits in goals for the first time in his career, equaling his total from the past 3 seasons. Doubtful he ever comes back over but he is still only 31 and the best skating blueliner in the Canucks system (guess we still hold his rights).

Yes, but was it an AHL-level drag or an NHL-level drag?
