Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021

Alright Canucks fans, its been a long fucker of an offseason but its looking like we are go for hockey Jan 13. We've had months of arguing about Mick being Gohmert, does Chef look like the scorpion singer, is blobs bald spot bigger than a tea saucer, is SKYO throwing g*ys off of rooftops with UK bu...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

I'll go on record as not sold on Hoglander developing into a productive NHL'r. Outside the flashy lacrosse move, where is the finish? Buckets of effort though. I won't be upset if he proves me wrong. From what I’ve seen, I’m with you, at least as a top 6 guy. I think his future is as a honey badger...

Re: Canadian Division

A view from a south of the border hono_rary Canadian. From least to most hated. Winnipeg. They’ve built a fun team to watch and have no more love from the hockey gods than the Canucks. Ottawa. They were a lot like the Canucks in the 2000s with Hossa and Alfie and Spezza. Good talent but never quite ...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

I noticed at the awarding of the Cup how surprisingly well-spoken [Bettman] was when he isn't getting booed. I am always impressed by the fact Bettman speaks through the boos as if they don't exist. Its not easy to do that. I also think its weird that he is so hated in a world where fans seemed to ...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021

Before the RFA signings, I figured that 2019-20 Stetch + VIrtanen + Gaudette + Motte would equal an AAV of 2020-21 Virtanen + Motte + Gaudette. I was off, it was cheaper. By about the difference between 2019-20 Markstom and 2020-21 Holtby. JB did a good job with this. He selecting the right players...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021

There's a very real option of short-term bridge on Hughes. These out-of-college signings can sign for less on their second deal, because they have no leverage other than sitting out. I could see Hughes signing for 6ish for 2 years. That lets you sign his 8-year extension to take him to 32, after Lo...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 19-20 Sponsored by SKYO

I've always assumed from your alma mater that you possibly live somewhere that is within the Avalanche "catchment" for media coverage, as you are extremely knowledgeable about the team. I'm from a different UW. Three hints: Danny Heatley, Brian Rafalski, Joe Pavelski. I get the NHL.TV through the N...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

With Gallagher, I like him as a player but I think the Canucks need to add a little size plus I'm not so sure he can continue to play that style for another 6 years without incurring a lot more injury as he gets older. Size for what? He's not a checking line player. "Size" is used for scorers as a ...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 19-20 Sponsored by SKYO

I think we've had this debate a few times - either you're a big Sakic fan (understandable), or you're a big Avs fan (unforgiveable!). So, Sakic started in 2013. He hired his buddy Patrick Roy as head coach, and rocketed off to a 52-win season. Surely, you would agree that season - the best regular ...

I think we've had this debate a few times - either you're a big Sakic fan (understandable), or you're a big Avs fan (unforgiveable!). I will tell you this: I hated the Avalanche in the 2000s, but that hatred ended with division realignment. Now I can't help admire Mackinnon and Rantanen and Makar ....

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 19-20 Sponsored by SKYO

Does Sakic have a playbook, or does the Avalanche have a strict internal cap? I think its more the latter - they've been nearer the floor than the ceiling for many years. Which is very unfortunate, as they are undoubtedly wasting the best years of Mackinnon's career without ever gearing up for a ru...

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 19-20 Sponsored by SKYO

Switching gears to a post about the lack of rumors or buzz, what's up with the Rangers? They are around the cap floor with two somewhat significant RFA's -- Strome (the lesser) and D'Angelo. They can sign them easily and be within the cap. They could even sign them to longer term deals, though I wou...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021

Maybe Virtanen is the cost to move a contract to fit in Hoffman. Hoffman’s a cancer. Maybe Green should force feed minutes to Jake on the top line with Miller and Petey. Play Brock with Bo and Pearson. You think he couldn’t light it up with those two? Give him top line minutes for ten straight game...

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021

Second, not overspending on a fourth line would be an improvement, wouldn't it? Not to nitpick, but this criticism is always framed differently than the way I see it... This is a good post, and lays out the "bring the kids up with vets" philosophy and how the Canucks are ahead of the curve now. But...
