Mmmm. Not exactly inspiring.

Benning/Linden's stated goal is to make the playoffs.

So Benning won't deal Hansen/Vrbata/Hamhuis unless we're out of the playoff picture, but that won't change as long as we're playing vets instead of kids.

It's a vicious circle.

Maybe another injury will help us snap out of it.

Only in rainbow unicorn land will we get a 1st for Hamhuis. Vrbata won't net a 1st either. Maybe Hansen if we get really lucky.

Besides, if Benning is the drafting genius he's claimed to be around here, we're talking guaranteed superstar at fifth overall. We need another Benning franchise player like Virtanen, not another Gillis plug like Horvat. That's what I've been kicking around in my head lately. Where is the evidence ...

The crucial question is, how many vets do you need to keep around to mentor the youth? Keep bringing in kids and at some point the balance tips over to the deadmonton model.

This may be a reason that guys like Hansen and Burrows (and maybe Hamhuis, but I hope not) are kept. The rest are expendable.

I carve Benning for a lot and rightfully so as he is doing a pretty mediocre job ( AT BEST) , but I can't blame him for wanting to rid the team of Zack. I was upset because we saw glimpses of what Kassian could be and heaven knows this team is small and riddled with pussies . It was the right move ...
