Agreed. It was a classy move, one that they didn't really need to make right now and you are right, no benefit to them.

Re: GDT: March 3 at Calgary: 5PM SN

They lost this game in the first and second. They out played Calgary for two periods but did not get enough shots nor did they pounce enough on a goalie that was giving up home runs for rebounds. If they had more finish, more of a killer instinct in period 1 or 2 they would have won this game. Calga...

Re: Keith Ballard

Even then the Rangers and Canadiens still have Redden and Gomez (respectively) on their cap - to the extent they would have if they'd waived those players and assigned them to the AHL - until the beginning of the originally planned buyout period anyways. Those special buyouts were done solely as a ...

Re: Keith Ballard

I have long suspected there is something with Ballard toeing the party line or practice work ethic that puts him in AV's doghouse. Recall his first season when he was scratched. The team statement was he wasn't healthy and a couple of days later Ballard says he's been a healthy scratch. The Canucks...

Re: Keith Ballard

So unless there are off ice issues we are not privy to .. Let us know what you find out. :sly: Nada. My friends say they are mystified as well. So whatever it is there is no one from the Canucks talking. Much like the Rypien situation where even the players were very careful with what they said, th...

Re: Keith Ballard

Some people argue that keeping Luongo is a waste of cap space even if it means dumping him for scraps. I argue the same with respect to Ballard. I'd rather have another centre that can fill in until Kesler gets back. I'd rather have a poor man's right sided D'man that could play 3 pairing and allow ...

Keith Ballard

OK, so I'm starting a new thread. Why? Because I just don't get it. Apparently it is true, Ballard has been a healthy scratch the last two games. I for one would like to know why. He has been one of the more consistent D'men this season. He gets punished because he can't play the R side while others...

Re: GDT: March 3 at Calgary: 5PM SN

Forwards are the same as last night. Luongo is starting tonight. Bieksa is out, and Alberts and Barker are in. Surprised the coaching staff is going with Alberts and Barker ahead of Ballard...I thought Ballard has played a lot better this year. I'd like to get the goods on why the coaches seem to d...

Theodore may be done for the season with a torn groin. Ouch.

Re: So, who would you like in a return for Luongo

His position all along has been he will only trade one of the goalies if the trade makes us better today and/or in the future. He won't do a salary dump and he doesn't want bad contracts back. Nothing in his position has changed from day one. I think the longer the season goes the more likely that t...

GDT: March 3 at Calgary: 5PM SN

Snowstorm delays Canucks flight. Won't arrive until a few hours before game time. http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=14815 Canucks will be the tired team today but always seem to get up for the Flames. The Flames certainly sound pumped and ready to take it to us. Actually no one knows if the Can...

Re: Weise or Volpatti?

^ You got it right! But forgot to add that when he needed to make room for Kesler he decides now is the time to force manny out. Kelser has cost us manny and Volpatti!! Seems like Sestito can kill penalties too so if he is successful at that with us that gives him a leg up on Volpatti. Suppos...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Apparently the NHL is supposed to flag players who need to clear waivers to re-join the league in situations like this so GM' s can get a quick check before making a move like this. The NHL for some reason did not flag ROR. The league has said that would not have been a defence for Calgary not doing...
