the only way they could play a non Pacific division team in the first 2 rounds is by winning the division (unlikely), by being a wild card team or if the wild card team (could still possibly be a Pacific division team) beats the division winner in round 1.

so if the Canucks finish 2nd/3rd in the pacific they face the other 2nd /3rd place team in the pacific. Right now they are 2nd and would face 3rd place LA.
