Re: Bieksa signed

Bieksa's problems other than the times when he was obviously recovering from injuries have never been as a result of his physical capabilities. His mistakes have been generally a consequence of poor decision making on the ice. Partnered with Hamhuis he has played exceptionally well. I'm not suggesti...

Re: Bieksa signed

Injuries aside, this is a player who has had two decent seasons, his initial season and the last playing with Hamhuis and now he earns more than Hamhuis and has an NTC. If I'm an optimist I say that his mistake ridden seasons were a product of his injuries, if I'm a pessimist I say Hamhuis could mak...

Re: Ok, so the Canucks stunk in game 7 - Why?

Perhaps its the difference between getting injured and having the other team knock your player out of the game. However, I found it of interest that both Chicago & Boston played *better* when we knocked one of their best players out of their lineup. Those teams rallied behind it and elevated their ...

Re: What changes should we make for next season?

I don't expect any major changes to the core group of Canuck players subject to the outcome of contract negotiations with Bieksa, Ehrhoff and Salo. Of the eleven players without contracts, there are three pending RFA's to be signed: Lapierre, Hansen and Sweatt, and eight UFA's: Higgins, Torres, Glas...

Re: Ok, so the Canucks stunk in game 7 - Why?

I would temper what follows by stating credit where credit is due, it is no mean feat for a team to reach the seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals, and the Canucks should all be commended for their efforts. On a more coldly analytical note: The injury to Hamhuis definitely had an impact on the Can...

Re: R1G6: Canucks @ Hawks - 4:30 - CBC, VS

OK .. nobody else said it so here it is: Bolland line outplayed and outscored the Sedin line That is the soft spot in this playoffs.. Not Torres , Not Luongo, Not Kesler but the lousy defensive play of the twins and their inability to outscore a checking line.. tonight they got 1 goal and were stil...

Re: Should Cory start?

As for Schneider, I think it is about as likely as a reasonable post on this message board the day after a loss, but I would say that because of the contract status, even if you do go to him, win or lose, it's Lou in the next game. One would expect that the series is as you say Lou's to win or lose...

Re: GOODBYE PHOENIX?

If Bettman continues to flog a dead horse in Phoenix and player escrow payments increase, the next round of negotiations under the CBA could be very interesting. It's almost getting to the point where revenue sharing has turned into subsidized stupidity, and I doubt Donald Fehr is going to be shy ab...

Re: Torres gets 4 games (and then none)

Fred what your asking for is a common sense application of the rules, and perhaps the NHL got it right. Seabrook was in an area which had been specifically pointed out by the NHL as an area where a certain type of hit was allowed. Torres but for Seabrook looking down and back delivers a clean hit. I...

Re: Torres gets 4 games (and then none)

According to Colin Campbell: "When Rule 48 (Illegal Check to the Head) was unanimously adopted by the general managers in March, 2010, there was no intention to make this type of shoulder hit to the head illegal," Campbell said. "In fact, at that time, we distributed a video to all players and teams...

Re: Torres gets 4 games

The D-man (and all players) HAVE to maintain some responsibility for their own protection. Seabrook put himself in a terrible position, looking back for the puck in an area of the ice that you KNOW you'll be hit. Torres doesn't make that hit and he's out of a job. Pretty much bang on. If the NHL wa...

Hopefully Malhotra recovers completely from his injury. As far as the Canucks go, how do you replace someone who was literally a machine on face offs. Damn...

Re: GOODBYE GARY?

Unlike other N.A. pro sports teams, hockey revenues are heavily dependent on ticket sales, and Canadian teams with Toronto as the leader, all finish in the top ten for income generated by gate receipts. Consistently, along with the NY Islanders, the sunbelt teams have finished at the bottom for inco...

Re: Canucks get Higgins from Florida

Looking at Higgins stats he doesn't look like much of a push for Raymond, more likely an insurance acquisition for the playoffs given that he is a $1.6 mil UFA at the end of the season. Lapierre who's an $.9 mil RFA, seems more likely to figure into the Canucks future plans. I haven't done the math ...
