Re: Red Wings - San Jose - who are your cheering for?

And so San Jose wins another close one. They had control most of the game but still tried to hand it back to Detroit in the end (or Detroit tried stealing it back, depending on your point of view). Marleau finally got a goal, but it wasn't much more than a tap in (but at least he was standing on the...

Re: REVEALED : Why Kesler Shouldn't Have Been Captain

It's always about perspective. Fans and media alike constantly label the loser as having choked. What about the winner? Didn't they have something to do with the outcome? If Detroit wins game seven was it their heroics that completed the comeback or San Jose choking? With Niemi having to make 40+ s...

Re: Why the NHL sucks part 2

CBC's Saturday exclusivity is only good for the regular season, the playoffs go with the scheduling around the events of all the arenas involved. Couldn't be helped in this matter. I am ignoring this and blaming it on the weasel Bettman, thank-you-very-much. I am pretty sure he booked Rogers Arena ...

Re: Is Kesler the best Canuck ever?

Farhan, I think your list is good, but I think all the teams you listed that won the cup won because they're best players played like they could (the top 2-5 you listed) but they were deep AND got contributions from at least 3 lines and had a relatively deep defence. If you look at Chicago the bigge...

Re: REVEALED : Why Kesler Shouldn't Have Been Captain

Often times, it's WHEN you come through. For example - Toews in Game 7 of round 1 this year. Crosby at the Olympics. But Toews lost in game 7 this year. And Toews was largely ineffective against Vancouver. He was shut down and had very little production. One goal in 7 games is not great (for Toews)...

Re: Red Wings - San Jose - who are your cheering for?

hmmm beating the " best "? Didn't notice that the Sharks got a Norris nominee or Selke nominee? Datsyuk and Lidstrom ARE the best !! In any case the " best " will be the winners of this series. Exactly, the best between San Jose and Detroit is who wins that series. It is hard to say who was really ...

Re: REVEALED : Why Kesler Shouldn't Have Been Captain

The twins on the other hand, have CONSISTENTLY performed BELOW their regular season abilities. It's not just one series like Kane......it's been almost every series unfortunately. You can even throw in the 2010 Olympics. The great players usually find a way. You don't think Joe Sakic in 1996 had ev...

Re: Why we resign Bieksa

The whole "dump BXA" crowd from last spring should be taking a good hard look at where BXA was coming from, and the fact that he was still playing somewhere between good and great hockey most nights while recovering from 2 serious injuries. The whole "dump BXA" crowd (and I was a member) was a cap ...

Re: Why we resign Bieksa

Ballard has a NTC (he can designate 7 teams that he'll accept a trade to). Doc, you know that MG won't bury him in the minors. That sends a bad message to potential FAs and would give MG a bad name. Maybe they'll try to trade him but the chances of trading a $4.2M healthy scratch are slim to none. ...

Re: REVEALED : Why Kesler Shouldn't Have Been Captain

Hence - why I labelled Kesler's taunt as 'classless'. I am in no way supporting what Kesler did. However - I would still take a classless asswipe that "brings it" come playoff time (i.e. Kesler, Byfuglien, Pat Kane, etc.), rather than a bunch of passive "good sportsmanlike" pussies that apparently ...

Re: Why we resign Bieksa

the problem with your 14 million reserve is that Ballard eats up 4.2 of it. that leaves (basically) 10m for Bxa and Erhoff (doable) and we are RIGHT up against the cap again, with weaker depth forwards than this year... The question becomes who do we keep? Bieksa or Erhoff? if we could ship Ballard...

Re: G2G6 - Canucks @ Nashville - 5pm

Kesler again!! What a player! On to the Western Conference final!!! Great play by Tambellini on that breakaway (his speed was useful there !) and another great game by Kesler. Can't say enough about Kesler in this series. He put the whole team on his back and carried us into the conference finals. ...

Re: Is Kesler the best Canuck ever?

Sedin's have a lot to prove right now. If they can't 'cut the mustard' in these playoffs, then I think it might be time to move them in the off-season. Let's see how a guy like Rick Nash would do as a Canuck. I agree they have to step it up, but at least they GOT us into the playoffs unlike Nash wh...

Re: R2G5 - Canucks host Nashville - 5pm - CBC, VS

Are you trying to say that they could use a bit more GRIT  ? Good line, but no. Just that if there's any players that you can label absolutely as "they are what they are" it's the twins. I think this team needs more goals, and the Twins took a positive step tonight toward bucking their s...

Re: Why we resign Bieksa

I don't dislike Bieksa at all, and he seems like a good teammate to have around, but I think he's going to need to take a hometown discount to be worth keeping. [...] He's a nice complement to a roster, but when you get in the five million range, you have to be front and center. If we can get him b...
