We survived the first period, and started getting in some good shifts near the end. Let's hope that continues into the second period. Unfortunately, Pyatt's eye injury looks like it could be pretty nasty.

GDT: 10/22/07 Canucks at Carolina

Ten minutes into the game: We're the most penalized team in the league, and we're at it again as Carolina goes on its 3rd power play. We've been outshot 14-3, but Luongo is holding the fort down--- I'm not sure how much longer he can last. We're giving the puck away every time we touch it - which is...

The score flatters us - we were outshot and outplayed most of the game, but I'm happy to get the 2 points anyway. The difference in this game: We made the most of our chances, and the Jackets didn't. Sanford looked sharp, although he tended to overcompensate when sliding across the crease.

Wow, zero shots in the whole second period. We do NOT deserve to be winning this game.

5 straight penalties against the Canucks, including an unsportsmanlike conduct by Mitchell? We're lucky Columbus hasn't scored a trio of goals a la the Canucks other second period meltdowns.

A 2-goal lead, with Sanford in goal is a pleasant, if somewhat unexpected, surprise. Hopefully they'll not blow it in the second this time.

Levelheaded, your comments echo my sentiments exactly.

I too wish I'd spent the evening doing something more fun and productive - like banging my head against a wall.

I was really impressed with the way Pyatt went after Evanans after that late hit on Henrik. I didn't know he had that in him --- and I was even more impressed that he had the upper hand in that fight. Good for him! And good for the Cooke-Burrows-Kesler line too. Nice goal, and nice shifts throughout...

That save on Daniel has really turned the game around. Indeed, Nabokov looked positively Luongoesque on that save. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that all our blown chances won't come back to bite us. And yeah, Naslund's drop pass was ridiculously dangerous. It was so preposterous that even the Sha...

Woohoo! One of our power plays finally paid off! Isbister blasts one off the post, straight to Pyatt who had no trouble directing it into the net.

And then in his next shift, Isbister draws yet another penalty. What a great game for him!

Isbister working his way around Carle was impressive, and it was great to see him draw a second penalty moments later. I'm liking this kid tonight! It's too bad we couldn't capitalize on any of our power plays.

The Sharks are likely to be sterner competition than the woeful Oilers. Hopefully the Canucks will start on the right foot this time, as opposed to their sad season-opener. I predict 3-2 Canucks in OT, with Linden netting the game-winner.

Welcome to the forums Daniel. Good comments on Cooke, Ritchie, and the Sedins. I hope Cowan isn't too badly injured. NOTE: In order to keep the forum from getting cluttered, we generally post all game-related topics in a single game-day-thread (GDT) - one per game. The GDT for today's game is here: ...

Today's performance by the Canucks was a much better win than yesterday's. The goals were the result of excellent pressure and beautiful coordination (as opposed to yesterday's goals which were due to shoddy goaltending). The Sedins were flying offensively, and our defence was generally a lot more s...
