Re: Trevor Linden is stepping down in VAN

I always thought that Linden and Benning wanted to do a long rebuild but had directions from the Aqualinis that it was to be a short one. Remember how touchy Linden and Benning were early on when reporters mentioned the Canucks needed to do a "rebuild" and they would say it was a quick retooling but...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

Per, thanks for posting the interview and taking the time to translate it for us. I think this is the second or third interview I have seen from Dahlen and he seems to be well spoken for a young kid. Might have a bit of Bieksa's gift for giving interviews from the heart. I am looking forward to the ...

Re: What to do with Hughes

I am on the fence on this one. I have no problem with Hughes making rookie mistakes. My only concern with him playing at the NHL level is whether he has fully grown yet and whether his body has matured enough and can take the punishment. I recall Nugent-Hopkins being rushed and getting lots of early...

Re: Free Agency 2018 & Everything Related

Hey HW, my initial thought about the de Haan signing is that Canes seemed to give a lot of term for a guy missing a lot of the last season with a shoulder injury. 4 years at 4.55 million. Adds nice depth to the Canes defence if the shoulder is ok. In terms of the Canucks, Hughes and Juelevi play on ...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

In terms of current Centre depth, we also have Sutter and Granlund which would allow the Canucks to start Pettersson at wing. I think that Strangelove's list looks to the future if things work out. So, if Pettersson adapts well and is good to go at Centre then in a couple of years it could be: Horva...

Not sure that I would say that Evander Kane was fine in Buffalo. He may have been fine in the dressing room; however, he was arrested at a bar during that time. Excerpt taken from the Globe and Mail about the arrest incident: "Sabres forward Evander Kane was arrested by Buffalo police Friday, and fa...

Interesting information Aaron (it is rare that anyone outscoops Per on info coming out of Sweden).

I too would like to see Benning have more picks. I wonder if a deal between Canucks and Leaves which sees Tanev going to the Leaves for Lilgegren plus might help both teams. I think I am botching the spelling of his name; but, Lilgegren is 6 foot and offensive-minded D like Hughes, Boquist and I thi...

Re: Canucks Young Guns

I read that Linden was 183 lbs after the memorial cup win and got to 200lbs for Canucks training camp. Petterson and Linden look like they have similar body types. I suspect that Petterson will be fine at the NHL level; although, I would feel better if Benning acquired a little protection/deterent f...

Re: Canucks News and Notes 2017-2018

I like the Biega signing - one of the few Canucks who plays above his height and weight. I think he has been used by the Canucks once or twice as a 4th liner; however, I can't recall how he did. For a smaller defenceman with grit and great checking ability, I wonder whether it would be useful to the...

Re: The 2018 NHL Entry Draft

In terms of the Oilers, I think that part of the reason for getting rid of Hall was that he was seen as having a bad attitude and there was a concern that his character would rub off on McDavid. The trade has been good for Hall and may have changed his attitude. However, it is possible that the Oile...

Re: The Great Jim Benning Debate!

While it is worrisome that Benning does not have a contract yet, I don't think that Linden speaking to the media is a sign that he is seeking the GM job. My sense has been that Benning is uncomfortable in the media and that he prefers to have Linden do more of the media relations part of the GM job....

Re: Trade rumours & armchair pipe dreams 17-18 Sponsored by SKYO

In terms of BPA and evaluating McCann, he was generally expected to be drafted in the Top 12 I think. Button rated him as #8. McCann fell hard on draft day and the Canucks got him at #24. It may be that GMs were spooked by his character; however, once a guy like that falls to #24, it gets harder and...

Re: What to do about the Sedins? (Poll)

I don't think cap is going to be an issue for the Canucks. At this point, the Canucks are one of the worst teams in the league this year. I don't expect that free agents are going to be lining up to join the Canucks (let alone give them a home town discount like the Sedins may). Sedins have the thir...

Re: What to do about the Sedins? (Poll)

I agree with Cornuck and UW Saint. I don't see the Sedins agreeing to be traded. The Sedins are still fine in the Top 6 and if the Canucks can get a friendly one year deal with the Sedins, then the Top 6 is mostly set. Focus on improving the D, adding grit to the bottom 6 and getting draft picks.
