Re: Canucks News n Notes 2019-2020

Last offseason isn't atrocious, but it is a minor impediment. This team has a few minor impediments that add up to an identifiable dragging weight on the Pettersson-Era. I should add -- the tangible thing Beagle was brought in for was the PK. He delivered on that -- lots of SH time and pretty good ...

Re: Canucks News n Notes 2019-2020

Last year when JB sign his FA in the off season almost all of here was not concerned about the players signed, there was some discussion that the amount was too high and they were 1 - 2 years too long but overall the feeling was that they were not taking any spot away from a prospect. Fast forward ...

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)

Didn't see this posted earlier: Blackhawks trade Anisimov to Ottawa for Smith. Why is this relevant? Anisimov gets Ottawa to the cap floor (counting McArthur and Gaborik). Like Eriksson, Anisimov's contract was front loaded; the cap hit is more than the cash bite. And with this move, I don't see an...

Re: Offseason grades so far

St Louis is lucky enough to have two of them. For a time Chicago did but now both of those guys are ancient. Its how Anaheim won as well (Pronger Niedermeyer). Detroit had Lidstrom and Rafalski; before Detroit had him, New Jersey had him with Niedermeyer (won a cup, lost a final). (Lidstrom had Mur...

Re: Offseason grades so far

How about a D by committee? That's the alternative to choose when there is no other choice..... I do not believe EK kills penalties so he is mainly there for offence. He kills penalties. He's not the #1 option to kill penalties in SJ. By team decision, not based on merit. Same thing in Ottawa. Play...

Ellis is is the only small guy and he’s a #3 at best on that team
And would be a #1 on half the teams in this league.

Re: Offseason grades so far

Didn’t say it was bad. There are some nice pieces here. But they need more. The stud all situations d man isn’t in the system yet. This is the biggest problem with the Canucks and has been for a long, long time. And it is the biggest problem for most teams, because there are between 10-20 of these ...

Re: Offseason grades so far

Does Benning have balls or a gun pointed at his head? He went all in this year. I don’t think he makes the Miller trade if he isn’t in the last year of his contract That question is trivial (what's Benning's motivation). The claim "he went all in" is one I agree with. You have this pocket of cap sp...

This is getting scary. The board is moving towards consensus.
Cue the discussion over who should be captain!
Leivo. Leads by counter example.

Re: 2019/20 Pacific Division

Last thought, even if the top 3 teams look like good bets to make the playoffs again -- say a 75% chance for each -- that's still better a than even chance that at least one won't make the playoffs. I think someone's going to lose a firm grip on a spot, and they will end of fighting the Canucks and ...

Re: 2019/20 Pacific Division

Looking around the division, I think it will be a dogfight to the finish, and the Canucks will be right there - not because the team is suddenly a contender, but because a weak division has remained weak. The Canucks are fortunate. This is a weak division. It was a weak division last year. And I do...

Re: Canucks News n Notes 2019-2020

Would Baertschi pass through waivers? I tend to doubt it. The salary is good for the per game production; if he's really an injury issues, he gets LTIR and insurance picks up the actual cash. So I think he's salary that can be cleared. Of course, Tanev wouldn't pass through waivers. That's salary th...
