Boo to the “Woo!”
Ok, I know what you’re going to say. People are having fun with it, so what’s the big deal?
The Canucks game presentation folks recently came up with a new goal celebration, with a recorded “Woo!” being played after every Canucks goal and the fans then repeat the recording.
Now having grown up with the growth of the WWF/WWE culture, I can’t help but hate this post goal celebration. This isn’t wrestling, it’s Canucks hockey. I’m such a wet blanket.
Now the folks at the Canucks assure me it’s David Lee Roth from Van Halen fame in the recording and not the wrestler Ric Flair, which makes me hate it a little less being a fan of the band, but I digress. Flair could likely be considered the father of “woo”, and as he states his “wooing” came to be born in th 70’s. It’s 2010 people.
Now to get some idea what it sounds like in GM Place after a goal these days, watch this video:
Now this doesn’t just happen after a goal, it’s starting to happen during the play. It’s happening in the washrooms, in concession lines and as you walk back to your car after the game. It sounds like your surrounded by a bunch of cats in heat, or by hyenas.
I say no more “WOO!”. Hey, we could mock our opponents after a goal with Nelson from The Simpsons!
Or wiggle our thumbs along with Mr. Burns:
But no, I shall not “wooo!” I can’t do it, and I don’t want my fellow Canucks fans to do it! Do we want to be lumped in with wrestling fans? Surely as Vancouver hockey fans we can come up with a better celebration, after all, we are the creators of towel power!
Thank you for your time…we now return you to your regularly scheduled WWE event.

The “Woo” lol. Yeah a few of my comrades have complained about it too. It’s VERY annoying. I think we all met up at the good ole Trap and Gill (old Doghouse) and started going off about that. Ah the ever ‘trendy’ Vancouverites…. Boo to the WOO..> seconded.
Hell yeah, booooo the Woo.
I got a pair of other ideas, what about a Kalashnikov-Man firing a salve up to the roof….
)))
Or more politically correct, a thunder roar of a ‘65 Mustang hitting the road, yeeehaw.
I third the “boo the woo”. I believe the Canuck players would “woo” after a win before leaving the ice. You could hear it on t.v. with a win on the road. So it seems the game presentation folks have stolen what the players started and decided it should be used after every home goal. It seems this “woo” would be more appropriate in Florida or Nashville, not Vancouver where we cheer because we love the game and the team, not because we’re told we should by the P.A. system.
First off the “Woo” is completely unnecessary and ridiculous! Carolina already has something similar since Ric Flair promotes that team and it just sounds so tacky.
The Canucks audio department doesn’t seem to have a clue about music either. I don’t understand why after all these years; after a Canucks win they still play that annoying Star Wars theme song. They should take some advice from the Montreal Canadiens, as their intros, goal songs, and any audio/visual presentations they put together are world class.
Lastly, is there any way to stop the “LU’s”? Chants and cheers are supposed to be loud and thunderous. The Lu chant just fades away, and it’s pretty useless to LU when he makes the smallest of saves. You can’t have a cheer with only one consonant which ends with a vowel, like Lu; it fades away regardless of how many people say it. There should be two consonants in a chant for it to be boisterous. One of the best chants that the Canucks have had in recent memory was the “Bobby” chant for Bob Essensa. The arena was so loud every time he made a big save. I personally think that we should bring back the Bobby chant as it is appropriate for Luongo.
Lu has always been chanted in this city. Lui Passaglia of the BC Lions used to get those chants at BC Place.
I don’t have a problem with the “LU” but I do with the “Woo!”
Dig it
Unfortunately,That says alot about the mentality and maturity of some of the vocal fans.
They end up wooing, but come off yippin like lil coyote pups
I was at the game .Burrows 1st Hat trick, when I 1st noticed the annoying Juvenilles
Im watching the Nasville game now on Tv
Burrows has 2 goals, and the “pups” seem to be doin it even more
Thank Ric Flair for showin up to one of Our games in Dec (who wiki mentions)
As mentioned before -too bad the lil sheep cant think of something More original
Jesus people lighten up….people always say how quiet fans are at the game, now that more people are making more noise with this “WOO-ING” thing you’re complaining…it’s fun, let it be…
I wish the canucks were more innovative then stealing a retarded “woo” from the Phoenix Coyotes.
If i may, i’d like to be bring to your attention, whether you agree or disagree with the ” WOO ” ….
.. Vancouver Canucks have the best hockey fans in the world.
I remember going to a Flames game & sitting beside a Flames fan that could care less what the game was about, what happens, who does what, etc. He was cheering just because everyone else was cheering, & he was wearing a Flames jersey just because everyone else was wearing a Flames jersey.
The reason I bring this up is because, there are people that are basically saying that the Canucks crowd is pathetic for actually GIVING a shit about their team, i.e. ” WOO!! ”
In my opinion; it is a great way to cheer our team on to victory, whether it’s a ‘Rick Flare’ idea or not.
& honestly, by the looks of it lately.. & i’m sure most Canucks fans will agree, it sure is working.
Ya… lets just sit there like a bunch of students getting in trouble if we make a noise……
Who says you can’t make noise. Let me guess, you’re between the ages of 16 and 20 and love to Woo! It’s not original (Boston does it too) and our crowd sounds like a bunch of cats in heat.
By the way, relax….this post was clearly tongue in cheek.
